Good Things Come In Small Packages! September 22, 2008 Graham N Liley 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What an excellent Laptop. I have no reservations in recommending this marvellous little package to anyone who wants a machine that is highly portable, light and powerful. I have had Dell, Toshiba and MacBook Laptops in the past and the quality and performance of this machine is well on par with the best of them, the price of 450 is simply amazing. The one thing that really stands out with me is how cool and quiet the laptop runs even when it is sat on my lap for long periods of time. This is the second ACER Laptop I have purchased from Amazon (I bought my daughter a 15.1" version last month) and will certainly keep them on my shortlist for future Laptop replacements - I am quite simply impressed!
Does what is says on the tin. September 7, 2008 I. Cottee (Chester, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I didn't buy this through Amazon, I spent 50 quid more and got it from a local Comet as I needed it that day (plus I wanted to try the keyboard first). My main machine is a high spec MacBook Pro and I bought this for one purpose only - to run VMWare Workstation on as I spend a lot of my time building Ubuntu systems and VMWare on the Mac doesn't have the features I need. I wanted a light, portable machine and this is definitely that. It's cheap, fast and does the job I wanted it for. I've also been doing some development on it, played some DVDs on it, also played the online game EVE on it. It does them all and unlike the so called 'NetBooks' which are everywhere, the keyboard is useful as is the screen resolution. The screen *is* small but not too small for me. I owned one of the first EEE PC's and found that to be too small. This is just right (for me). Even the speakers on this sound 'not bad at all'. So let's talk about the build. Well - it's pretty plasticky and the slot cover on the left just drops out if you hold the machine at an angle. When it's closed it looks quite nice but when open it reminds me of one of those childrens laptops you can buy (with the LCD screen!). But actually, it's kind of cute in a retro way and a couple of guys in the office (both mac users) have commented that for the price you can't fault it. The retro look goes as far as the big lights it flashes at you (blue for hard disk access and orange for wireless access). There's also a big blue light on the power button that can be a bit distracting if you're in the dark but I got used to it. For an Ultra portable like this, battery life is important. I seem to be able to get three hours out of it which isn't bad. Recharging seems relatively quick and the power supply is relatively small which is an important consideration when carting it around. In short - if you can embrace the design as a cute quirk and realise the machine's limitations you should be fine with this machine. One small point - I'd advise you to go through setup and remove all the 'extras' that can installed by default. You'll end up with some more free memory and a slightly faster machine as a result.

Acer Aspire 2920 Notebook Laptop, Intel CoreTM 2 Duo T5450, 12.1" TFT, 2GB RAM, 120GB Hard-drive, DVD RW, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, WiFi, Integrated Webcam, Vista Home Premium The best laptop ever! I use it to run my own business, light enough to take with me, great reception, easy to use - a great buy!
Crashed August 7, 2008 DMZ92 (London) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
Bought this beginning of July 08, worked fine for 2 weeks then it lost internet connection. Turns out the installed Norton was up to no good & blocking network connections, turning off Norton Firewall & turning on Windows firewall fixed this. Some sporadic hanging of windows resulting in several hard boots finally resulted in the machine now not booting at all with an inability to load windows message. No recovery disk either. Best satisfaction could be to see how far I an throw the stupid machine from my balcony!
A Great Little Laptop ! July 11, 2008 Viv (Devon, UK) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I needed a smallish and lightish laptop for long train journeys, primarily to work on, and with good battery life, ideally at a budget price. This laptop meets all of these criteria and far more. The surround sound and dvd drive mean that I can watch the odd film on it (instead of working !). The DVD drive is also a writer which will be useful for work. I have a bluetooth printer at home so, the bluetooth means that I can connect to that easily. Surprisingly, for the price, it doesn't seem flimsy at all - it is quite well built. And I love the look of it - very stylish and cool. I have 1 gripe - there is a lot of pre-installed software that I didn't want and had to spend ages uninstalling (trial versions that are completely pointless) - I would have rather been given them on a DVD and had the choice. I didn't buy the laptop from here in the end but, Tesco Direct because I could get the same laptop there at the same price but, with a 250 gb hard drive rather than a 120 gb that this one has !
