2 out of 5 stars Only good for music   July 18, 2008

I'm sorry but can anyone explain how to access the Internet and link up to my e mail on this stupid thing. Even in an open access wifi area, Safari won't work. It just says 'cannot link to server' I've tried it in the UK and the US - same result. Do I have a duff machine? And as for linking to my wireless router at home, it asks me for all sorts of stuff that you need a degree in computing to understand. Sorry, it really is rubbish (though a good basic MP3) and I'm sorry I bought it.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding product   July 16, 2008
Mr. C. M. Webb (Surrey UK)
I have a 32gb iPod touch and to be honest it's perfect, I have just bought the update to 2.0 and it's transformed this stunning media player into a gaming machine and full PDA. 32GB gives me enough room for 12 full length movies, several TV Shows, 1500 songs and still have room for more. The touch screen is flawless and reponsive, the features such as Mail, and the Safari browser make it perfect for surfing the net. Not forgetting that this is the best iPod ever made, yes it's still only 32GB but to be honest it's enough for most people.

Best bit of all, Apple quote 22 hours music playback, well I get 25 hours with little hassle, and Video playback is 5 hours 30 min's. This is an expensive device but it's worth the money in every way.

5 out of 5 stars The Touch deserves its hype.   July 9, 2008

Let me start by saying that the iPod Touch was as good as I'd hoped it would be. And I had high hopes!

My initial concerns were that the touch screen wouldn't be particularly sensitive, the navigation would be cumbersome, the quality of video playback would be poor, importing files would be difficult and the battery life would be limited. I told you I had high hopes! However after having the 32GB version for over a month now, I can confirm that my concerns have been well and truly allayed.

The touch screen is as good as you'll find on the market. It's sensitive to touch without being over the top and what has probably pleased me most, is that even when you're clicking on small links in the web browser, its accuracy is outstanding. Wirelessly surfing the internet is a breeze and the addition of motion sensors to flip the screen and view websites in landscape mode is a real bonus.

Navigating between albums, video, e-mail, internet etc. is perfectly easy, with options to select from artist, album, genre etc. It's not difficult to find your way back to the start or between albums etc. The best endorsement for this is that I've not had to read the instructions yet, it really is that simple to use.

Using iTunes as the primary source of importing music and videos on to the Touch is, again, as easy as you would have hoped it to be. I had a lot of wma files on my computer and even converting these to m4p files was a simple, albeit lengthy, case of drag and drop. There are a number of websites that allow you to convert DVDs and video to the iPod format, which are very simple to use. Again, this did take me some time to convert, although it was worth it in the end.

My first outing with the Touch was on a long train journey to and from London. During the trip I listened to a few albums, watched a full movie and also watched some other videos that I'd put on the Touch earlier. The screen is a good size for viewing movies in transit and apart from the sun shining on the screen (yes, the sun does shine sometimes in the UK) I had no complaints or tired eyes. By the time I had got home, I still had plenty of battery life left.

I can't recommend the iPod Touch enough. To date, I have four movies, a load of albums and some photos stored on mine and it's only about 1/3 full. If you can afford it, go for the bigger capacity as you'll want to take advantage of every single feature that the Touch offers.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant as a PDA, let alone an MP3 player   July 5, 2008

I have been a PDA user for years - I love the ability to have my contacts/ calendar etc with me out and about, and synchronising to my PC. I therefore use the Touch as a PDA, not particularly as a video/ music player.

A few comments:
- on my version you can add calendar entries to the Touch (unlike one of the other reviewers). I bought my touch in the States, so I am not sure which version you particularly need, but just do some careful checking before you buy if you want to do this.

- it synchronised easily/ first time with my Outlook on my PC. It does it via iTunes (which needs to be up to date version), but it was no trouble even for a non-technical person like me

- I agree with other reviewers - get a case if you want to keep it pristine. See my other reviews to find out about the case I bought, which I am delighted with.

- the useability of the Touch is great. Very intuitive and easy to pick up.

- I have the 32gb version. Whilst I have a reasonable amount of music on the Touch (2000 tracks), I also have 2800 photographs. The Touch re-sizes them automatically, so I still have 22GB of space left! All in all, I think the 16GB would have been fine for me - but I have not got videos/TV shows downloaded.

- Functionality I like/ didn't realise it would have:
- stocks (keep track of any shares you may have as long as you can connect to wifi).
- Wifi updates automatically if you have "visited" before.
- Weather (for multiple places) at a touch of a button.
- Notes section for quick reminders while you are out.
- From your contacts, you can click on someone's address for an immediate Google Map of their location, and get directions. The abiltiy to scroll through data/ pictures with just a flick (lovely functionality!)
- picture slide show/ automatic rotation depending which way you have the screen held. You can also zoom in to photos very easily. You can add pictures to your contacts too.
- alarm clock/ stop watch/ lap timer.

All in all, if you want a beautiful device, that is slim, smart and does all that you need and more - I would thoroughly recommend it.

3 out of 5 stars great gadget, but check for compatability   June 15, 2008

love the music and picture aspect of this ipod, did also buy to get emails etc, but my talktalk email is not compatible, so utterly useless for getting e-mails on the move
sat-nav only works if you are in a wi-fi area
so really a glorified music and picture player
please check your e-mail is compatible before splashing the cash
