Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The perfect match for iPod: Any iPod with dock connector plugs easily into the integrated Universal Dock for iPod. With newer iPod models you can view full-screen album art and even tweak the tone settings on iPod Hi-Fi to get the best sound depending on the room or type of music. Of course iPod Hi-Fi will charge any docked iPod when it's on AC power. On DC power you can also get a 30-minute quick charge.

5 out of 5 stars Beats its rivals, hands down.   December 27, 2007

I did a lot of homework before buying this relatively expensive speaker set. I read a lot of reviews saying 'hifi - this is far from high fidelity'! The audiophile critics are almost certainly correct. However, I love my apple hifi. At the time I bought it (having done a lot of prior research), the real competitors were Monitor Audio's iDeck and Bose's Sounddock. I owned the former and had listened to the latter a number of times.

The three things which are outstanding about the apple hifi:

1. The bass. I have never heard such lovely bass from such small speakers. When positioned correctly, it really is sweet! I used to hate my alarm, but when woken up by my apple hifi, I just want to stay in bed and enjoy the music! Previously (not owning any expensive systems) to get more bass I'd ramp up the volume! With this, you get crisp, clear bass even at very low volumes.

2. Rubber mat. The bottom is a big sheet of rubber. Means no annoying vibrations and also means the furniture it's placed on adds to the acoustics.

3. It looks gorgeous (I think, anyway). It works with the universal apple remote (although when you've also got front row running on the iMac like me, you can run into problems with the remote controlling the two at once!

At the end of the day, it just sounds so much better than it's competitors.

5 out of 5 stars Going... Going... GONE!   November 7, 2007

Firstly, let me start by saying in terms of pure power, the Apple Ipod Hifi blows all other competitors out of the water. Sure the others sound 'loud' but none, even the BOSE, the Klipsch, the Amplifi, the I-fi can match the Apple for POWER. When Apple said they wanted to create a unit that would replace the family Hi-fi, they kept true to their word - this thing sounds as big as any Hi-Fi system you'd likely need for your home. If you dig around very hard you'll come across the proper specs for this unit. It's output is a massive 300 watts!!!

I auditioned this thing in Comet before finally buying and BLIMEY!.. I had to turn the thing down. It filled that aircraft hanger of a space with thumping bass. I never managed to turn the thing right up it wouldn't have been fair on the other customers.

Now for the bad news... because of the quality components, the cost is high at around 250. And that has restricted sales - which led to the Apple Ipod Hifi being discontinued on 5th September 2007.

So if you see one for sale - GRAB IT! They are going to be highly sought after because - they are simply the best speaker system ever designed for the iPod.

4 out of 5 stars Apple at there best!   May 20, 2007

I got this as I have 2 hi-fi's already & the thought of getting A third to use my itunes/ ipod was not appealing.

I realy looked into which set up was best. Asked all my friends, did the usual price checking on-line & read loads of reviews.

So, after all that decided to go for this model.

It is about the size of A speaker & is just slightly too heavy to pick up comfortably with 1 hand. I found this re-assuring for some reason?!

I tried it out at my house warming party & it was Fantastic!

Sound quality is tremendous, reaching high volumes with v v little or no distortion of sound.
The bass is brilliant.
The obvious one is it is soo much easier for me to create one big party playlist, press play, & thats it for the whole night!!!
Beats burning 10 cds & constantly having to monitor the stereo!

God, I sound like an advert for apple!!

Truth is, I was/ am over the moon with this product. Far outstripped my expectations & for the money realy is the best on the market.

Only complaint is the generic apple remote (therefore menu button does'nt work) but, I'll get over it.

Buy one!!!!!

The menu button on the remote has no function with this speaker. The remote is a generic Apple remote designed to be used with different Apple products. So, for those of you concerned that your remote is broken, it isn't.
To those who say "Why not just connect your iPod to your HiFi?", I bought one of these for BBQs in the summer to save me putting speakers out my living room window. It will never replace a decent stereo system, but it doesn't pretend to try. Buy this or the Bose. There's not much in it with regard to sound quality, just aesthetics.

5 out of 5 stars Small Box, Big Sound!   March 7, 2007

First and formost, the sound from this unit is great. It offers an accurate, clear tone with smooth 'highs' and punchy base. The remote is small, but has a good range and works from virtually any position. My only critisism is the iPod mounting on the top: A better plan would be to position this on the front of the unit, allowing other things to be put on top (like a DAB radio). It's not cheap, but will give you a sound that is 'as close to CD' as you are likely to get. 4.9999 stars!
