Good unit. Bit of pereserence on set-up pays September 10, 2008 RW (Sheffield, UK) Bought from Digidave via Amazon. some set up problems, but these were quickly resolved with their on-line support. No problems now. Have PC, two lap-tops and Wii all connected. My IPAQ doesn't want to play, but I think that's my fault...
Great bit of kit, but needs a high spec adaptor February 15, 2008 ABH (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have 3 laptops, an HP compaq, a Dell Inspiron and an IBM thinkpad each with their own wireless adaptor. The WPN824 is brilliant with the thinkpad - I can wander to the end of the garden, work in the garage office etc. It is not quite so good with the other 2 machines and the signal is poor at distance. I have had this wireless router for 4 weeks now and apart from the issues above it hasn't let me down.
Great product, beware if not handy with I.T!!! January 21, 2008 JP (Essex) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
After checking around, Netgear seemed to have the best reviews and good customer comments on Amazon. After recieving the product i started to follow the CD guide supplied for set up. This is helpful but a notes to point out if you have not done this before like me. 1. when setting up the router on the CD guide leave the router unsecured for the time being. This option will appear when assigning router names and other details. You will not be able to link your wireless PC etc to this if you secure it straight away. You can go back and secure this once everything is up and running 2. When you get to the stage where the router is picking up your wireless connection you will need to ensure you go to the admin site for the netgear set up and write down the long key number assigned to your connection. A personel password can be assigned to make life easier but you will need to write the number/letters down as it will ask for it when you first make the wireless connection to your router as a security pass (copy and paset to ensure you get key correct). Once all is complete, go to the admin site which you should have a default passphrase for, and secure the router in settings. 3. Also, if you hide the router name from other users your connection may not work as i found out. 4. Last one, We also found when we restarted the laptop the wireless connection in my networks dissapeared. If you run wireless on a card, remove the card and restart the PC/laptop again, and then replace the card. (pps make sure all other connections are disabled exept the wireless router after initial set up) Hope any of these details help when setting up.
Good Router if you can get it to work!!! January 12, 2008 Rikard Rupasinghe (London, England) This was my first wireless router and Amazon did a really good job of delivering the item on time so well done. However after taking it out of the box and trying to install it using the CD was such a painful experience. It took me 6 hours to get this router running properly! I called Netgear technical support and after 40 minutes on the phone with them, came out blank and their explanation was that the router was faulty as it didn't detect the static IP automatically. So after a few more tries eventually managed to get it working and so far my internet is working fine, although my laptop is only running at 54mbps not 108mbps. Good solid wireless router however be warned, installation could get as complicated as putting together a rubix cube.
No more dropped connection January 9, 2008 Mr. M. J. Burrows (Plymouth UK) Im with blue yonder (now virgin) and when your ip address lease runs out and you get assigned a new one my old linksys router just gave up and stopped working it then had to be reset and this was very frustrating. not anymore with this router it just keeps on going 24/7 fantastic product
