Ok for re-edging August 22, 2008 Mr. K. Walker (Scotland) I bought this system from amazon a few mnths ago, as i own a restaurant i felt the more expensive the better ( you only get what you pay for!!!!). however this is not a patch on the oringinal ozitech sharpener (not the new style with the fingers linked with rubber strips) but the original that has independent moving fingers. Any way the sharpening system is ideal for really bad knives that need re-edging but as for a sharpener that is easy to use, i wouldn't again pick this one, it is far to fidgity, even when using the free counter holder, as you have to change the fingers. Th first part of this mechanism is perfect for fixing old knives but as for the rest, it makes it all too time consuming and certainly does not provide the edge its predesessor did
Excellent product August 9, 2008 EASimon I purchased the FUR629 (although not from this seller, but from amazon directly) and used it this morning to sharpen all kinds of knives from expensive ones to cheap ones. It is extremely easy to use and now all my knives are sharp... finally! It worked on large and small knives. I've never been able to use a knife sharpener before, but this really couldn't be simpler. Took me about 30 seconds to understand how and off I went. I'm very pleased with this purchase.
Low-quality sharpener, not recommended April 8, 2008 Fredrik Thomassen (London, UK) I wanted a good quality knife sharpener for my Henkels kitchen knives, and saw the good reviews for this sharpener on other websites. I was very disappointed with this sharpening system. From the packaging right through to each of the various "components" of this system, I found the build quality to be very poor. The mechanics of sharpening with the "fingers" result in scratches to the blades, and a knife edge that is rough and not razor sharp, and therefore can tear rather than cut food. It's very difficult to sharpen any knife that's shorter than 10cm, and always difficult to get to the point of the blade. I'm having to buy another system.
