bought this a few days ago .found it seemed to clean ok but suddenly found the cleaning solution coming out without me pressing the switch.also it seems that some dirty water gets into motor and comes out underneath .has anyone else had this problem?

I have to say I read all the reviews about Vax products and some were very dubious, but for less than 70 I made the plunge.
Having animals, children and mud, everything gets really dirty! The carpets I have are low pile and I was not sure it would dry them properly. But I have used this on two of my carpets and it has worked a charm.
Plus Points:
*Easy to put together - 5 screws - Vax could have included a screwdriver though!
*Simple easy instructions.
*Very easy to use.
*Easy to roll.
*Leaves the carpets quite dry.
Negative Points:
*Sounds like a large aircraft is taking off.
*The rollers don't press down hard enough and are not height adjustable.
*If you move it too fast the float (that stops it when full) bounces up and you have to switch it off & on again.
*If you want them to be as dry as possible, put one foot on top of the dirty water box while pulling backward!
To be honest I am nit-picking with the negative points, it is really good. I plan on using the cheapest possible cleaning mix once the Vax mix runs out.
Thoroughly vacuum your carpets before using this, otherwise the brushes will get covered in hair and take ages to clean again!
Saved me money and allows me to keep the carpet clean.
In short a good buy and cheaper than eBay.

A good machine. Cleans well and dries well, although be aware that the cleaner your carpets are to start with, the better it will dry them (the deep embedded dirt retains water, frequent washing gets rid of it and therefore lets it dry easier).
The only downside is the noise, it's quite possibly quieter having a jet engine strapped to your shoulders!!

Used my VAX Rapide for the first time yesterday and it is brilliant - you can actually see the dirty water for yourself, so you know it is working and the carpets are touch dry immediately after you've cleaned them. My house now sparkles!
Wish they had an attachment for the stairs though.

good product at the price.
It is hampered by not having an accessory kit for stairs and could do with a little bit more power.
That said it cleans well, is easy to set up & use so no complaints.
