Ecozone, Bio Bulb, 100W Bayonet (Full Spectrum Daylight Bulb) The BioBulb is a full spectrum daylight bulb that uses 75% less energy than a standard light bulb. The BioBulb 100w (using 25w) bulb issues a massive 1750 lumens (a lumen is a way of measuring natural light, and a standard 60w bulb only manages 600 lumens, so that's over three times as much) and closely replicates sunlight, which may improve mood, nighttime sleep and daytime energy. Anyone prone to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) or who simply longs for summer may find that its flicker-free white light helps to restore their natural equilibrium. They are ideal for reading and most pleasing to the eye. Our BioBulb also radiates less heat than a standard bulb and lasts around 10,000 hours. Length 100w 13.5cm, 60w 12.5cm. I have just received two Philips Energy Saver bulbs as a 'free gift' (or something!) from my energy supplier, and, I have to say, against the Biobulb they are dreadful and, having started using them, I'll replace them with Biobulbs as soon as possible! The Biobulb has a 'naturalness' about its light that has greatly improved my living space since I used them to replace incandescent lamps a couple or so years ago. Naturally it uses a little more power than most energy-save bulbs, but that is because it is actually brighter, quite apart from the colour of its light tending to make it look brighter anyway.
However, I do want to give one caveat about the Biobulb and ALL fluorescent or vapour discharge lamps. These ALL give off a certain level of harmful electromagnetic radiation, which has adverse health effects (mostly very long-term, so that they are not widely known about, though I remember that quite a long time ago it had been found that people working regularly in places with fluorescent strip lighting had a higher-than-average incidence of malignant melanoma). In the case of the energy saving bulbs this radiation is at a low level, but it is still something that is very much worth avoiding.
Although there are many devices available that are claimed to protect you against such radiations, the ones I know that actually do so effectively are the Energy Egg 'family' of devices and the more effective Clarity-Sphere - though at the moment the latter is not in commercial production.

I bought two of these bulbs in which to replace the energy saving ones in the front room and my bedroom. What a difference.
Until then I hadnt noticed that the light produced by my energy saving bulbs had a yellowish hue.
I had noted that trying to read a book at night had become significantly harder, but I had simply put that down to old age. How wrong I was. The light produced by the bio bulbs are absolutely fantastic.
I will be purchasing more in which to replace the yellow hue Ive become accustomed to these last few years with proper white light.

The Biobulb differs from other energy saving bulbs in that it produces light that is close to the spectrum of daylight. This light appears brighter than that produced by other energy saving bulbs I have in my home. It is also worth noteing that the blue/white light produced is noticeably different from the more yellow light of other energy saving and filament bulbs. Consequently I have avoided using the Biobulb alongside other types of bulbs and instead used it to light particular areas of my house.
Pros: Very bright, white light, low power consumption.
Cons: Light produced is very different from other bulbs, power consumption slightly higher than ordinary energy saving bulbs.

This bulb is fantastic. Not everyone suffers with serious SAD in the winter, but everyone definitely gets the blues on with dark mornings, evenings and gloomy daytimes so this is a real boon. You'll be in a room with it on and think you should be outside enjoying the sunshine, only to look outside and realise it's dark and miserable because the light is so natural you forget you've got it on! Great if you set it on a timer and put it in your bedroom to come on just before your alarm goes off - helps with the winter blues that make you just want to stay in bed because it's so dark - also much cheaper than the specialist SAD alarm clocks which are very expensive, the only difference being they gradually increase the light. Great for reading by as it's a very white light and so emphasises the contrast of the letters against the page, without being stark or cold. You will believe this is daylight I guarantee it.

Great product...reccommended even at 15 a pop, enhances mood as claimed and almost feels like sunshine through your living room even when pitch black outside!
Once you have one you wont want to go back, thoroughly reccommended
