Great at first and then you need our workaround ! August 13, 2008 Keith Savitri (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Yep, as everyone says, it bakes great bread and is especially good for wholemeal but anytime between a few months or luckily for us a year and a half the paddle starts coming off during the process and all you get out is a flat gungy mess that is only good for feeding the birds with. We tried being careful about how we put the ingredients in - no improvement. We bought another paddle, same story. We asked Panasonic who replied with a standard email that was of no help. The workaround is this - the paddle fits loosely onto the spindle so cram in a wet sunflower seed or two - pushing them in tight with a knife or your nail. Leave for 10 mins and then bake as usual - hey presto, it works again! Now all we have to do is get rid of the enormous magpies in our garden! No points to Panasonic for not remedying this design fault or replying properly to our email but hopefully a few frustrated owners of this machine may find this review helpful just as I have been grateful for other people's reviews of various products over the years.

i have read all reviews and just hope this is not going to be another gadget going back into the cupboard like my phillips juicer i bought a few months ago, so now ive narrowed it down from a morphy richards bread maker to a panasonic... but which one 252 253 254 255 the list seems to go on help me
Great Results everytime November 4, 2007 Stargazer (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I used to think bread makers were a gimik until I actually tried the results from this one. As a result I bought one. Top notch bread, though I would recommend you make sure that you use good quality bread flour.
Great bread every time October 1, 2007 Liam (Cambridge, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
We've owned the SD252 for 10 months and make 2 to 3 loaves each week. Provided you remember to put in all the ingredients you get great bread every time. After reading some of the other reviews I checked the paddle before filing this. Whilst there is a little play in the paddle, it doesn't seem to be causing a problem and the machine is still making great bread. I can't think of anything I would change in this breadmaker so have to give it 5 stars.
Paddle Problems July 4, 2007 bread-maker (LONDON) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Couldn't agree more with the reviewer below - I use my SD253 five times a week - or rather, was using! The paddle thing gets loser and loser and eventually embeds itself in the loaf which does not rise properly and can ruin the whole loaf depending on at what stage it got stuck in the cycle! The bread is generally ruined by the time you have dug the paddle out anyway! Panasonic's helpline is useless and I am NOT paying for a replacment blade every couple of months! This is a design fault and the machines should ALL be recalled for modification - it is sold as a bread maker and that is what it should do!
