More Variety and Less Sugar Please! December 23, 2008 Matthew Nation First the positives...Its a good looking (well I think so!), well designed device. Small in size, but with a nice large water container, and simple enough for anyone to use. The black coffee is very good, the espresso particularly so, being thick and creamy - just about perfect. It also heats up very quickly, meaning you don't have to wait around before enjoying your coffee. The not so good... the cup tray splashes quite a lot when using it, and there is no auto shut off on the device, which means you need to guess how much of each capsule to put in a drink (can be tricky in bigger cups, meaning you get watery drinks...) The downright annoying... Sugar! Lots of it! Why? I would far rather have the choice to add sugar or not, but Dolce Gusto seem to insist that lots of sugar is essential for anything involving a milk capsule. The latte is just bearable, but the cappucino is unbelievably sweet. I suspect that their use of dried milk powder in the capsules means that it tastes unpleasant without the added sugar. Which is a shame. Other instant machines manage to use liquid based capsules, and these taste far superior in my opinion. So, to summarise, if you just like espressos / black coffee, then its not a bad machine. Or if you like lots of sugar in your coffee, and don't mind the slightly synthetic taste of dried milk powder, again its ok - but if you like a decent cappucino and want to decide yourself how much sugar to add, look elsewhere!
brill wee gadget December 14, 2008 Rosie Cook (Scotland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought this little machine half price and wasn,t expecting much from it but I was pleasantly surprised I don,t like strong coffee so the latte suits me. Very pleasant and nice and frothy. ( even nicer when a slug of tia maria or baileys is added ) Keep wanting to pat it though as it looks just like my black cat sitting on my worktop. I highly recommend it.
Sugar free September 28, 2008 Mrs. A. M. Flatt (Somerset) I love the machine and the coffee but I do not take sugar in my drinks and cannot find any of the drinks with sugar free milk in the boxes. Has anyone found the milk without sugar for this machine if so where? Thank you
Great little bit of kit! September 24, 2008 Mr. S. J. Beresford (Cheshire) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having looked at the other reviews i decided to get one, 4 stars is pretty good! Im in no way unhappy with the item. Good points: Very quick and easy to clean. great selection that comes with it as a starter, ie all the drinks and mugs. you dont use your own milk, so is good and hot, unlike other makes where the drink can only be warm, these come out HOT!! Looks good! the other coloured options are a little nicer, but who cares? ease of use! The taste, the coffee is good and strong, the milk is not really as sweet as other reviews make out but the Chocolate is, i have taken to making a chocolate with an espresso on top, its amazing! you can just use the unit for hot water to make tea, saves boiling the kettle, thus electricity and the penguins! (screw the polar bears though). Bad points: as mentioned by another review, the boxes of pods (ie refills)cost about 3.25, this has 16, but 8 of these are the milks, thus you get 8 drinks for 3.25. thus is, i feel, a little on the pricy side! this is not the case for the espresso which comes as 16 pods of just coffee. so in conclusion, great to have around if you have the odd coffee, ie about 4-5 a week, but if you have about 30 coffees a week then its going to cost you quie a bit per week to keep this habbit up! great for guests (as shown by the advert on come dine with me!) and the drinks look amazing! worth the money and the delivery was lightning fast.
Best coffee you can have at home September 23, 2008 Mr. C. Smith (UK) I have searched long and hard for a good coffee machine which was soundly priced. This coffee machine is fantastic. As a coffee drinker I cannot say more for a home coffee machine. The quality is excellent and guaranteed every time. If you like coffee, don't mess about with cheaper brands/models. Yes this costs around 80p a coffee, but it is well worth it. Buy one today!
