5 out of 5 stars Excellent knives   November 10, 2008

I have owned Opinel knives for most of my 31 years, and all have been fantastic. The one sitting in front of me now has been in service for nigh on 15 years and is still going strong. The blade may have some pitting, but the edge on it is excellent.

For the Opinel's price range there is nothing better. No blades at these prices come close to their ease of sharpening, edge retention and outright performance. The wooden handle is comfortable and more than up to the job these knives were intended for.
The swelling mentioned in another review isn't much of a concern, nor is the blade tarnishing issue (if it is to you, go for the stainless blade option). These trivial problems can easily be overcome with fairly basic care.

So there you go a fantastic blade at an even better price.

Buy one, look after it, and you'll be golden.

3 out of 5 stars basic work knife   October 6, 2007

Handy little knife light in the pocket and blade takes a good edge but the handle is made of wood[usually beech or oak] which will swell in damp/wet conditions and will jamb the blade in closed position so only 3 stars
