1 out of 5 stars PLEASE READ...Very Dangerous - DO NOT BUY !!   November 29, 2008
V. Merrie (UK)
Please ignore any reviews that suggest you buy this kettle - it is seriously dangerous, the handle has just came off mine whilst I was trying to pour boiling water into a cup. The kettles contents splashed me and very nearly scalded my 16 month old daughter who was playing on the kitchen floor nearby. I also (like previous reviewers) bought this kettle with the toaster because they looked great, but PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS KETTLE and for those who already have it at home... be aware that Russell Hobbs sent a recall notice to customers in relation to this kettle after it appeared on a watchdog programme for this very fault. It is unfortunate however that I was only aware of this notice as a result of scanning the internet after the accident had happened.

1 out of 5 stars A very lucky escape!   October 27, 2008

I purchased my Russell Hobbs glass lid kettle in Jan 06. I Had absolutely no problems with it until (without any warning)the handle completely sheared off whilst I was trying to pour boiling water into a mug!! As the kettle hit the worktop the lid flew open and the entire contents splashed out. Luckily the boiling water just missed my legs and bare feet. I Have since discovered that this type of kettle was recalled last year. Russell Hobbs have refunded my purchase money (and not a penny more!) and simply apologised for 'any inconvenience'. Hardly award winning customer relations!!

1 out of 5 stars Not fit for purpose   May 21, 2008

Handle has just fallen off. Thankfully it was full of cold water. The kettle bounced off our granite surface and hit our Russell Hobbs matching toaster which now doesn't work. You couldn't have written this comedy sketch if you had tried. Not a happy bunny.

Loved this kettle in the beginning, it looked great, very stylish. I also bought the matching toaster. However, after about 2 weeks the kettle was so loud you could hear it boiling all over the house! Metal stud on top fell off, other bits of metal peeled off. Eventually when it was just over a year old and past the guarantee period, the swith broke completely off and kettle was binned. Bought another Russel Hobbs which lasted less than 3 months. I will never buy this brand of kettle again.
I also thought the toaster was rubbish as I had to have it replaced because it was sparking blue inside! the new one also did this and ended up replacing this as well.

1 out of 5 stars Still Dangerous   February 8, 2008

I recently bought this kettle from another outlet but hadn't read any reviews about it. When I later read the bad reviews on amazon I thought that the manufacturers would surely have redesigned the kettle to solve all the problems, but it seems I was wrong!

I've had it for one month and four days and it's already gone wrong. There's water leaking FROM THE ELECTRICAL SWITCH on the side of the kettle. It's not just a tiny amount either, it's covered the worktop!!

I find it quite unbelievable that this death trap kettle is allowed to be sold in the UK when we supposedly have such a 'health & safety' culture. Do not be tempted to buy this kettle for its good looks as you are risking a serious accident or injury or worse.
