2 out of 5 stars Looks aren't everything   November 30, 2008

I bought a DeLonghi KBE3014-2 3kw cordless cream Kettle because my wife wanted a colour co-ordinated one and this model was on offer. I got it home opened it up, filled it and....it did indeed sound like a helicopter was landing outside the kitchen window ( as a previous reviewer has said)
My big mistake was not reading the product reviews before buying this thing. I've emptied it out, dried it and will take it back to get a refund ( what chance there ?)
I likewise bought the De'Longhi CT04E 4 Slice Cream Toaster. Another piece of Italian tin. Took ages to toast even thin bread, the gauges feel like they about to fall apart and overall it was another bad buy. ~Guess what ? It's going back too.
Colour co-ordinatiom may be important to some but quality and reliability must also be considered.
It will be a long time before I consider another De'Longhi product.

4 out of 5 stars Maybe I'm easy pleased!   November 12, 2008

Just idling thru reviews while I decide whether to buy the matching toaster or not, and I was surprised to find how poorly this is rated.
And yet, I can hardly disagree with some - the gauge is particularly bad and does indeed look as though it's registering water content when there's none.
However, I find it robust, a good pourer, I like the side-ways handle on the lid, so that if you do take it off to re-fill after boiling, you don't scald yourself. I also like the fact that it will boil small amounts of water, and always turns off at boiling, whether it's full or got hardly any in.
Yes, it is Very Noisy, you can't have a phone conversation next to it when it's boiling.
I've had mine about 6 months in a fairly average kitchen, I'm no perfect housewife, but it doesn't look grubby or tatty yet. I've just been to stare at it to check.

1 out of 5 stars Don't but anything made by DeLonghi   August 9, 2008

I must agree with the first two reviewers - very poor functionality in all aspects. Just stopped working completely within 2 years. A place where I worked had one, and the guy had to weigh down a ruler on the switch to stop it constantly flipping to 'off'. Utter trash! What I really wanted to rant about is the DeLonghi blender kf8150m. Right out of the box, on the fastest speed there was the faint smell of the motor burning. I have since realised it is very easy for the blade axle to become overtightened, making it almost impossible to turn. I have used it about 5 times over the past year, and the handle has irrepairably snapped loose at the top. So that's about 16 per smoothie. Now keeping a critical eye on my DeLonghi toaster... will never buy another DeLonghi. Mind you, Vokera boilers, Fiat cars... I think a pattern is emerging.

Cannot be as generous as piglet.
What do Italians know about kettles - obviously nothing. (I should have known that as I know they don't use them).
Awkward to lift even when empty and very heavy. Impossible to refill through the spout. The lid is difficult to remove in order to fill the kettle, especially when it's just boiled and you need to boil more water because it jams. And the whole thing gets boiling hot on the outside when used, awkward at the best of times and dangerous with children about. Turn it on and you'd be forgiven for thinking a helicopter was landing in your back garden. The gauge is difficult to read - not a minor point. There's a piece of clear plastic which makes it look like there's water in there when there isn't - my mother nearly boiled it dry! And a terrible pourer. It splashes everywhere. And although it looks retro and quite solid in the pictures, the on/off switch actually feels flimsy and cheap and it's constantly grubby (especially as it's so difficult to fill and dribbles while you pour). And the limescale filter allows huge chunks of limescale through into your tea (or the baby's bottle as the case may be). I'm going to have to buy another one. I can't give it any credit for lasting more than a year as all my previous kettles have and I bought it so it would look nice in my kitchen, not because there was anything wrong with my old one. Annoyed, annoyed, annoying!

2 out of 5 stars Stylish to start with, now leaky, grubby and annoying   April 3, 2008

I did a lot of research before choosing this kettle and thought I found the worst kettle ever manufactured, after reading other reviews I could be wrong and it is just one of the worst.
Faults;- Not a fast boil but slow and noisy; cream exterior hell to keep clean and now looks old and grubby after only a year; cannot fill to capacity or leaks through the water gauge this started happening after about 3 months; worst water filter I have ever known; gauge is difficult to read as handle is in the way but that is a minor quibble; handle is awkward and is even more difficult to get last dregs of water out if you are smaller or more petite person
Good points:-Do not have to fill the kettle up to make one cuppa; has lasted longer than I thought it would.

Advice - When looking for a new kettle, do not make one your criteria points 'to match kitchen', because I did this and ended up with the DeLonghi KBE3014-2. Have given it two stars because it lasted over a year and after reading some reviews here I think I should be grateful!
