3 out of 5 stars Great looks, poor design   September 29, 2008

This expensive kettle looks stunning, is well-made, the lid opens properly, heats water fast - in fact, after 3 months use, it's still functioning perfectly. The problem lies in its shape. It's both tall and fairly slim. That, allied to the small spout, makes pouring really difficult, particularly if you try and limit the amount of water used. If you just boil enough for a couple of cups of coffee, you have to tip the kettle so far over to get the water out, that it comes out in a rush, and can be quite dangerous. In order to control the flow, you end up boiling more water than you need, so you don't need to tip the kettle so far. Not something you want to do in these days of high energy bills. A larger spout would probably alleviate this, but until then I'd recommend a differently-shaped kettle.

3 out of 5 stars Looks cool but taints the water   April 24, 2008

The kettle looks fantastic and has a cute whistle feature, but unfortunately it taints the water with an awful chemical smell and taste. After rinsing mine repeatedly it wouldn't go away.

Morphy Richards took a full fortnight to reply to my emails about it, meaning I couldn't use it in the meantime. It is apparantly a standard fault with the sealant reacting to chlorine, and you have to buy cleaner to remove it - not the end of the world, but not acceptable for a 50 kettle.
