At last - a great kettle that works! February 3, 2008 Gypsy Barlow (Suffolk, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have spent a few expensive years trying to find a kettle that isn't too noisy, doesn't have unreasonable condensation on the base and actually works - this one does the job! I decided to go for this very good quality brand even though I had wanted a brushed steel kettle with a large spout and a larger capacity. It is fantastic quality, works really well, isn't noisy, doesn't leak, doesn't have condensation - I love it! I just wish I could fill it through the spout. Thank you Dualit for solving my kettle dilemma - I was beginning to lose all hope of ever finding a kettle that did it's job.
Disappointing June 24, 2007 A. Craine 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Have had this kettle for about 18 months and am also experiencing the leaking problem. It has also scaled up quite badly. It's not very user-friendly, you can't fill it from the tap through the spout as it's too small, and to remove the lid requires both hands (it's quite stiff) and water from the lid splashes over you - not a major problem but quite irritating all the same. The whole thing seems to have a rather tinny feel, not the quality associated with the toasters at all.
Potential Buyers Beware June 23, 2007 Dr. M. Peaker (UK) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
We bought this kettle because of its style and because of the robust nature of Dualit's proessional catering equipment. What a mistake. Within a year, the electrical contacts on the base section failed. Dualit replaced it. Then within another year, the seals failed around the plastic windows and water poured over the base section; the plastic windows were also failing. Dualit replaced it. So, it has cost us two return postages to Dualit, along with the attendant hassle. We have a kettle and are waiting to see what goes wrong next. If you think this is bad, read our review of the matching toaster. We would never buy a Dualit product again. Expensive and very poor quality.
Very disappointing June 10, 2007 E. Davenport (London, UK) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I chose this kettle because I thought I was buying both the pretty design and the usually high Dualit quality but I was to be very disappointed. Within a couple of months the panel started cracking. I decided to ignore it thinking that it was a minor snag in an otherwise pretty, well working kettle. I regret now, not having returned to the shop straight away. After a several more months, the panel was not only cracked in several places with the limescale coming through but also started coming off! There was a visible gap between the metal body of the kettle and the plastic panel. I also noticed limescale deposits at the base of the kettle, which meant that it was also leaking there. Then the kettle started leaking profusely, with a puddle of water on the plastic base and around the kettle after each boil. Another thing is the lid mentioned by the reviewer below. The limescale deposits on it and around it very quickly, which not only looks unsightly but also makes the lid difficult to take off. It is also a bit of a chore to remove limescale from the edges (as when you simply descale by boiling the liquid does not reach that far) and from underneath the spout, without scratching the metal. I ended up spending ages rubbing the limescale off with cosmetic pads soaked in a descaler, in order not to scratch it, which really, isn't something I expect to do when descaling an ordinary household appliance that is supposed to make your life easier. All in all, looks pretty but very disappointing performance. I am in a process of replacing it, and I will definitely not go for Dualit kettle again.
Much improved! April 6, 2007 AJ (MK, UK) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
I've also known the same problem with the panel cracking that the reviewer below describes. However, I know for a fact that Dualit were aware of production issues and so switched production to a new factory. Since then, I've not had any problems with the panel on this kettle, and know others who have had no problems either. The kettle doesn't get five stars because I'd prefer it to have a catch on the lid, and it needs regular descaling (but that's true of all kettles in the area where I live). Overall, it's a stylish kettle, which is (now) well made. Enjoy!
