Great looks, good service - but then it fails July 11, 2008 I. Marshall (England) Bosch build a great-looking kettle, gracing any kitchen counter-top. We were really pleased with the design and the function of this kettle - easy to pour, boiled quickly, no problems with the metallic taste issue. But after 18 months, it suddenly started to leak gently at all the seams - a crust of limescale appeared at each seam around the base and either side of the handle. Now it's puddling water from the base, and we're looking for another model. Wouldn't you expect a kettle to last longer than this?
An excellent kettle with no problems March 4, 2008 Kestrel (Brighton) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having read the previous reviews on this page I was a little cautious when purchasing the kettle but due to past experience of Bosch products and backed up with Amazon's excellent refund policy I knew that if there was a problem then there wouldn't be a problem with returning it. It's an excellent kettle with a large (1.7 L) capacity and an adjustable cord in the base unit. It boils very quickly and although isn't that quiet it doesn't have any problems with the metallic taste mentioned before. I assume that this means that Amazon has got a new stock without the problem...
Looks good, boils great, a few quibbles January 14, 2008 M. Winch (East Sussex, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Overall, a good kettle. No problem with metallic water that earlier reviewers had, so it looks like that's been solved. Points for: - It's a good looking kettle (subjective). - Despite looking like it might not fill from the spout (and despite not filling from the spout the first time I tried), it does fill from the spout fine. - Boils fast (although I'm comparing it to a 6 year old Kenwood here). - Price. Points against: - There's no float in the level guage, making it hard to read. - The lid only opens 25% when you press the button, meaning that you have to open it manually to fill etc. - You have to shut the lid manually, although to be fair we couldn't find a single steel kettle that had a lid that could be opened *and* shut using the button. - Some steam escapes from around the lid and some of that condenses on the top of the lid. Still, we think it's acceptable (and we'd previously returned a Bellini kettle for just this reason).
good reputation but bad taste December 12, 2007 B. Plucknett (Bristol, UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Did everything it says on the box but left a bad taste in my mouth. I have had Bosch appliances for years (fridge & several drills) and trust them explicitly. I contacted Bosch and they said that there was a problem with the bonding component they had used with their sealant. It should only have affected a limited amount of stock which has now been remove by Bosch. Does Amazon have a batch of bad stock? I opted for a different make of kettle. I now own a Morphy Richards. Amazon were very good and refunded without quibble.
Bad Taste..... October 11, 2007 TW Tim (Tunbridge Wells) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Don't bother. Bad tasting water - horrible cup of tea. If you can't return to Amazon because of their 30 day return policy try Bosch Customer Service. I did and got my money back. With a problem like this you can't tell if it is going to resolve itself after a few weeks or not and by then you are out of time with Amazon. Bosch CS were slow but good.
