End Line June 21, 2008 A. Anwar (slough) I bought it less than 8 months ago and already the lid release button has broken and can't open nor close the lid.Amazon will only refund but not replace so contacted the manufacturers and found that they have stopped manufacturing it after many complaints about it's size.
Pretty good so far May 10, 2008 Cheshire Dave (UK) I am not a kettle fan and am amazed at the detailed kettle reviews on Amazon. And I thought they just boiled water. Anyway... one kettle DID make me grow to love it, and that was the Philips cube-shaped designer steel / ivory kettle, now deleted. When it got wrecked in a bizarre Hoovering accident recently, I needed a stylish replacement. This was the only one with an appearance that I liked. Very deco. Taller than you expect. After a month: a bit heavy, says my wife. Not as light as The Cube. Pours OK, but not as good as The Cube. Boils quite quickly, but not as quick as The Cube (due to small base area, I guess, but physics was not my best subject). Reasonably well-made, but not as well as The Cube. Difficult to fill, as tall to go under a tap and small lid hole / flip-up hinged lid. Small plastic lid catch looks weak and I feel like it will wear out and the lid will permanently be popped-up. Not like The sturdy Cube. Very difficult to fill through the spout, unlike The Cube. As others have said, IMPOSSIBLE to see the water level due to twinkling reflections from the blue LED light/s. The Cube was much better. Double-lined (double walled), inner lining hard plastic so not too hot to the touch for a metal kettle. So better than The Cube, if you are daft enough to like touching hot kettles anyway. PRICE - dear at 60, just about worth it at 40, which is what I paid in a fit of on-line credit card splurging. Would be a bargain for 30 but unlikely to be found at that price. Final word - I've read a review somewhere that raves about the 'black marble' base and handle. Wrong. It's just black plastic, and no marble effect. Final word 2 - for the previous Manhattan reviewers who've had problems: I think all Morphy kettles are guaranteed for 2 years and that they are very good at replacing. So don't just go to the tip after a few months ! Very finally, I have no connection to Philips, Morphy or their kettle products.
Best kettle yet! December 30, 2007 Designbyriver 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is the best kettle i've owned. 2 years on, no problems, no leaks, but loads of compliments. Is convenient to store in even smallest kitchen as it has such a compact, and square, base. Very quick to boil, and it's simple shape means it's very easy to clean and keep shiney. Final point...firm on/off switch not a flimsey over large plastic stick out one. Go on buy it!
Manhattan deco style kettle November 15, 2007 Mr. C. M. Sear (Bournemouth England) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Very classy looking kettle. Well Made with 2year guarantee. Easy filling. Super blue lit water indicator (when switched on). Easy to keep bright & shiny with a spray s/s cleaner. Quick boil and quiet. Highly recommended and a certain talking point in any kitchen
Nice but badly made October 20, 2007 Mr. Jason Jones 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Looks fantastic and is good for boiling small or large amounts of water. After six months I realised why my new wooden kitchen surface was always wet (and hence staining), the kettle had developed a leak. The kettle is now a year old and unusable due to the leaking, so it is in the pile for the tip with an old VHS machine. Style over substance, I'm afraid.
