All great apart from the noise... December 5, 2008 Major Jim (UK) We got this kettle a 2.5 years ago as a wedding present and we've had no problems at all - in contrast with some other reviewers, ours still works perfectly! The kettle is finished in satin steel, which wipes clean fairly easily. In contrast with some basic cordless kettles, its position on the base is non-directional and so you don't have to worry about fitting it on a precise spot, which is handy. It has a built-in scale-filter and a concealed element, and a fully-removable lid. The 'on'-switch is at the base of the handle and illuminates when the kettle is on. Pros: Boils rapidly, even when full. Ergonomic shape is quite attractive and the whole unit is fairly compact for this style of kettle. Cons: It *is* noisy; but given it only takes a couple of minutes to boil, it's not a major cause of concern (for us, anyway).
Mines 4 years old. March 15, 2008 C. D. Warburton (Bolton U.K) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had one for 4 years, its ok, i'd give it 3 stars as it is still working. However the other reviews highlight its drawbacks, hard to keep clean, poor water level indicator, lid hard to remove, dodgy thermostat & the casing being metal gets red hot its not "coolwall". Its noisy & from day one the thermostat in mine has had a mind of its own, occaisonally knocks off early & if boiling a small amount of water somtimes it won't knock off itself. Overall i can live with its little quirks, it looks nice & it is still going strong.
Does what it says on the tin, but nothing too special. December 22, 2007 Andrew S. Bridgwood (Wearside, England) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Have owned this kettle for 3 or 4 years now and seems to still be working reasonably well. Bad points are that it firs up quite quickly even with water of medium hardness + lime is hard to shift from the element itself even with neat cheap vinegar. Thus effecting boil times. The filters are not worth a jot as they are so fragile I keep putting my fingers through them every time I try to clean them. The lid is a very tight fit making it hard to open for filling/cleaning.
sold as 'Quiet Boil' but don't be fooled! November 29, 2007 Mrs. C. A. Delves (hastings, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Bought this without looking at the reviews below (silly me), is far noisier than normal kettle, poor design, not very good at all
Poor Quality Control November 25, 2007 Cumbria 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Purchased to replace an identical kettle with which we had been very satisfied for 2-3 years. New kettle leaked intermittently; water kept appearing on base. Kettle swapped out, but replacement also leaked. Again swapped out, but no better. Telephoned Russell Hobs customer service who showed no interest but merely suggested that it be swapped out again. (NB the "leak" appeared to be linked to the auto cut-off mechanism tube which passes down the handle into the underside of the kettle.) Finally sent letter to Russell Hobs Customer Service but received neither acknowledgement nor reply. Eventually changed to a Breville (which is excellent in every respect). Pity that the Russell Hobs Quality Control and Customer service is so poor, as this kettle is very attractive and is easy to hold due to its soft handle and excellent balance. Also of note was the poor "brushed" finish. Our original was perfect, but two of these new kettles displayed stripes, one being particularly bad, again an example of poor quality control.
