Great appearance but awful taste August 7, 2008 Alan (Cheshire) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was really attracted by the design of this kettle: nice black finish, flip-top lid, wide spout, well-positioned water-level indicators. Unfortunately it failed miserably on the basic test of being able to boil water to make a decent-tasting cup of tea. I discarded the first kettle-full of water I boiled, but then the first pot of tea tasted awful. Undeterred, I boiled about 20 kettles full of water and threw them away. The results were still the same. A perfectly clear kettle-full of water ended up tasting and smelling foul, and also looking cloudy. There appears to be some sort of chemical reaction between the alloy used in the kettle and whatever chlorine, fluorine etc. the water company dispenses through our tap. I returned the kettle and swapped it for a Kenwood, problem solved. I believe that others have had similar problems with other kettles from the Accents range. It may be have been from a faulty batch, or the problem may be a function of the chemical composition of the local water supply. Either way, my advice would be not to risk it until Morphy Richards acknowledge that there is a problem and fix it.
Should have listened April 22, 2008 Sara (Cambridge) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have had the kettle for only seven months. For the last two months the catch on the lid was starting to become difficult to release. I now have to prise the lid open with a knife! Brilliant, not.
EVIL KETTLE!! April 18, 2008 Rowena Mead 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought one of these kettles at Christmas thinking it would look very stylish in my kitchen, well it did for about a week until it got limescale around the spout. The worst thing I have to comment on is how loud the kettle is, I don't know if mine has a fault, but we actually have to raise our voices to speak over the noise everytime it is switched on. What is even WORSE is the design fault it has - metal casing instead of plastic, which means if you happened to put the kettle on, and then go back to check if you did acually put it on (you know when you are engrossed in something, and think, did I or didn't I put it on?), you would normally just put your fingers on the kettle to see how hot the plastic was, but as this kettle is metal, you scold your fingers if you do that - it is EVIL!!!!!My final point; don't buy this kettle, it is terrible.
Poor design January 30, 2008 S. Hindmarsh 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this kettle as the style attracted me, however after a couple of months the lid broke off, and soon after the filter in the spout fell apart.
Love kettle, style, but lid keeps breaking January 4, 2008 Shelly (Scotland) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The kettle style, boil, performance is excellent, however, we have had two of these kettles now, and both of the lids have broken. The first broke and was under guarantee, the second one broke and is no longer under guarantee. Would buy this kettle again if they could assure me the lid would not break......
