Product Description

Save energy and money with Eco Kettle - the best selling eco gadget in the UK, at the lowest available price from Ethicalsuperstore.com. Until now, accurately measuring the amount of water to be boiled in your kettle has been all but impossible. The result? It is estimated that, on average, we boil twice the volume of water needed every time. Which means twice as much energy, twice as much time. With a 3kW kettle that’s the same as wasting the energy of around 50 light bulbs!

The Eco Kettle is different: its internal reservoir holds a full capacity of water ready for use, while the measuring button allows any quantity – from a single cupful to full capacity – to be released into the separate chamber for boiling.

The result? Exactly the right amount of water every time you boil – and no more waste.

The Eco Kettle has been approved by the Good Housekeeping Institute and is recommended by Powergen as a pioneering product in the battle to save energy in the nation's homes. During independent consumer trials directed by the Energy Saving Trust, the Eco Kettle used over 30% less energy than standard kettles.

Eco Kettle features include:

  • 3kW stainless steel concealed heating element
  • Steam control and boil-dry protection
  • Cordless; 360 degree base with cord storage
  • Locking lid with illuminated on-off switch
  • Washable limescale filter
  • 230 volts AC
  • 1.5 litre capacity
  • 12 months warranty

5 out of 5 stars BEST BUY OF THE YEAR   July 2, 2008
Mark A. Price (uk)
I bought this kettle after my old kettle gave up the ghost. I heard about this kettle on energy saving websites and decided to have a look on amazon and read a few reviews, i was a little put back by some of the negative comments in some reviews but when reading some negative niggles like "the handle became fairly hot when boiling more than once" i thought i would try it out.

I was really pleased with the build quality of the eco kettle and it felt very robust. the catches and plungers all felt very positive which is always a good sign. the top seal was very good and gave an air tight seal to the upper water compartment.

as for the hot handle problem, i boiled the kettle about eight times in a row using fresh water from the upper compartment to get rid of any possible new kettle taste and the handle stayed perfactly cool. i suppose if you re-boil water that is still 80-90 degrees it might HEAT the handle a little... my advice is it is an eco kettle, boil it ONCE and use the hot water before it cools and save some money. I would recommend this kettle to anyone and it will be making sure that my family have one in their homes before the year is out.

Top Quality Kettle!!!

2 out of 5 stars Don't bother   July 2, 2008
McDad (London, England)
I bought an Eco Kettle in my bid to do my little bit for the environment. I wish I hadn't of bothered. Within a year of having the kettle the lid's latch no longer closed properly, then the valve button broke which meant the reservoir chamber was no longer of any use. While I contacted the company to make them aware of these faults, we used this kettle as you would a standard kettle. The company were slow to deal with my issue and would only offer a new kettle for a slightly lesser price. We bought a normal kettle, cheaper then the eco kettle, which has lasted us a lot longer then a year. Surely the environmental benefit the eco kettle is meant to provide is counteracted by the fact that it needs to be replaced every year and if not recycled, sent to landfill to be disposed of. I think this is one of those `green' products that is ineffective. Stick to buying a good quality kettle which will last and discipline yourself to only boil the water you need. Don't waste your money on this product.

3 out of 5 stars Has potential but fundamentally flawed.   June 21, 2008
purple rain (UK)
I concur with the majority of other reviewers, this kettle is fundamentally flawed. The lid is stiff, the central knob does not return to its initial position, but become stuck. The lid needs a firm push down to lock in place, otherwise you end up mixing cold with boiling water on pouring. It's not so much that the kettle is heavier than others, but due to its separate chambers the load is unevenly distributed meaning it feels heavier. Further, as the separate boiling chamber holds more than the 'filling chamber', you cannot boil water for more than four mugs so it has to go on again. Hardly eco-friendly. Finally, it does spit hot water out if you pour as or just after it boils. I think this is due to the position of the heating element so that boiling water 'flashes' back on to it. I have had to put up an advisory notice in my office to the effect of waiting a few seconds after boiling before pouring to avoid getting sued.Although it has potential because of these designs flaws I just cannot recommended it until a new version is released.

On this note, another reviewer states that there is a mark2 version of this kettle, which has none of the design flaws of the initial version. I would be grateful if he returns to post, if he could tell us where to get this from, as my search for this version renders nil, nor do any of the sites advertising it refer to this or indeed any other version, so there is no way to distinguish one from the other. Buying it after the date he states he bought his version is no guarantee as a company may still have old stock.

Until a new version is definitely marked I would advise using the kettle you have and using your mug or cup to measure the amount of water you need into it.

5 out of 5 stars Mk 2 excellent   June 14, 2008

I am assuming that all the negative reviews for this kettle are based on the MK1 model because I have had mine for about 1 month and all the issues that were raised in the negative reviews just don't exist on the kettle. It does not spit water as it will not let you overfill the kettle. The top is very sturdy and not flimsy as reported. It does exactly what it says on the tin, boils the right amount of water with no fuss or bother and it's speedy too. The only slight downside is that the water cools quickly in the kettle due to having the cold water resevoir, but you get used to that and pour the water out as soon as it's boiled.

After reading some of the dramatic negative reviews expressed on here I was slightly nervous about purchasing this but I am glad I did. I will see how the kettle does long term but at this point I would recommend it.

1 out of 5 stars An Abomination   June 3, 2008

Whoever invented this kettle should be shot in the legs, its rubbish, we have 2 in our otherwise prestigous office, and they are a health hazard spitting hot water like disturbed vipers. I fail to see the eco-freindliness of time wasted visiting the NHS burns unit each time you want a cup o cha.
