The major selling point is completely unconvincing June 18, 2008 The Happy Space Invader 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wow... it's a stainless steel kettle... but when you turn it on, it glows blue and you can see the water boiling! How did they do it? Well, unfortunately, the second you get the kettle out of the box, you will see straight through it: the mirrored glass, that is... the kettle is (of course) not stainless steel at all. When you fill the kettle, you can see the water going in, so this is probably a good thing, otherwise you would not know when to stop filling it (there's no water gauge) but if you thought you were ever going to fool anyone into thinking it's a stainless steel kettle, you'll be sorely disappointed. The only time the effect looks vaguely convincing is in a dark room with no light whatsoever behind the kettle (I posted a video to YouTube demonstrating this). The only other problems are that the mirrored glass is a magnet for specs of dust, grease, water droplets that have dried on etc., and filling it without water gong all over the outside is difficult because the spout is not very big, forcing you to open the lid of the kettle and bypass the filter, which means you will end up with limescale before too long. Or you could just turn the tap down and fill it more slowly, if you're very patient. I was going to give a very low score indeed but the fact remains that the boiling water illuminated by a blue light (and I normally hate those blue lights that seem to feature on everything these days) does look very cool and hypnotic. Also, it is a very fast boiling kettle. So, it's not bad, but don't get your hopes up.
Disappointed March 30, 2008 Magzy A (Guildford, Surrey United Kingdom) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this kettle because it looked so stylish. But I found it very heavy. The button on the lid needed a very firm press to open it. And as the previous reviewer remarked - there are no water level markers. The pouring spout is wide so it can be difficult to pour water into small cups etc. I took it back and got a refund. I then bought the Breville Spectra (which you can use for 'mood lighting'..!) which is lovely to use as well as look at.
Good looking... March 4, 2008 D. Russell (Glasgow, Scotland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you're after a kettle with a bit of style, this may be the one... It is has a stainless steel effect (colour) when off, and is see through when the kettle is on, blue lights round the base light it up so you see the water bubling away. This model (43127) is possibly an improved version of the 43121, as the negative comments given by reviewers for it seem to have been resolved in this version: It's not noisy, boils quickly & switches off quickly, and it has a plastic pouring spout on the glass jug, so it won't crack against the tap. Only have one small negative point: it has no water level guage, and since you can't see through it, its hard to know how much water is in it. Works well, looks good. Had it for 4 weeks, no probs.
