Warning Dangerous Design!!!!! September 12, 2008 Mr. D. W. HUNTER (UK) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This kettle has two faults - firstly when the kettle boils, the spout superheats and when you pour the water, it bubbles out all over the surface and potentially YOU!!!! Secondly the top handle as you can see in the diagramme is hinged which again when hot means that the hinge is flexible and the kettle will swing a tad, on the handle! In my view, it's a rubbish kettle and environmentally - you should be buying an electric kettle that you can measure the amount of water you NEED before boiling your money away on the gas hob!
Chocolate teapot May 7, 2008 Mrs. R. M. Griffiths (Liverpool, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Gorgeous kettle but a real 'chocolate teapot' I am sad to say. 4 weeks old, the whistle has given up. When it has just boiled, pouring the kettle is hazardous and messy with boiling water sprayed everywhere. The handle holds the heat so that it can only be lifted using a cloth. Total waste of money unless you only wanted it to grow plants in. Rubbish. I can get a cheaper much more reliable kettle from another manufacturer and now I will have to do just that.
If you love your tea - don't buy April 13, 2008 S. Rayner (Lincolnshire, England) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
My wife was delighted when I purchased this kettle. However we too had a few problems with the whistle. We had to purchase a replacement whistle after the first one melted when we did not hear the whistle and the kettle virtually boiled dry. But this was not the real problem as we found the drinks had been tainted by the whistle from the very first cup. If we removed the whislte the drinks were fine. Very disappointed with the product considering the cost and I also found that the spout over-heats making it spit boiling water everywhere when poured unless left to cool for a few seconds. It takes over 5 minutes to boil two cups of water on a gas hob which is still longer than an electric kettle.
The perfect kettle - looks and function March 4, 2007 S. J. Binnie 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I bought the kettle for the gorgeous design and the great reputation of the Le Creuset brand. I read the reviews after I'd bought it and started to worry. There was no need. It works brilliantly. I've had no problems with the whistle (though I find it sounds slightly louder when rotated according to the picture on the box) and it looks amazing. Of course it takes slightly longer than an electric kettle, but you expect that when you buy one that sits on the hob. Be realistic. I'm over the moon with my new kettle, it's brilliant and works exactly as I expected it to. If you're tempted, buy one.
Doesn't live up to its looks February 11, 2007 Neil W (Sheffield, UK) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
The kettle looks fabulous, which is the sole reason for the three stars. There are however two major flaws that let it down: It takes ages to boil and doesn't whistle. The fact that it takes ages to boil is particularly annoying when people like electricians / plumbers pop in and you want to offer them a quick cup of tea, because it tends to be the case that the kettle is just coming to the boil when they've done their job and are on their way out again. This is perhaps not a feature specific to this kettle, but all hob-top kettles in general. The fact that it doesn't whistle seems quite specific to this kettle (other reviews mention it as well). When our kettle comes to the boil, it tends to gurgle and hiss a bit, but that's about it. You'd think that with a device as simple as a kettle, the manufacturers would have at least made sure that it whistles. Nonetheless, three stars are warranted simply for its good looks.
