5 out of 5 stars Very Good, some of the bad reviews on here seem factually wrong   July 16, 2008
PT2001 (UK)
I bought this in spite of some of the bad reviews on here and I can only conclude the model has been improved or some people bought a cheaper alternative.

One reviewer said you had to unscrew it to put batteries in, that's just not correct. Another says there is no way to remove it if it's batteries run low, this is also wrong, it has a reverse button to help release it and if the batteries completely die it has a large easily accessible screw to wind it off manually. Maybe the negative reviewers needed to read the instructions more carefully. After either of the actions you have to reset it for it to work properly again.

So far this had worked flawlessly on every tin thrown at it, even my mum can use it, the first ever electric can opener she's ever been able to use.

For 6 and change it's worth every penny.

5 out of 5 stars Easy peasy, no fuss, no strength required can opener that fits in a drawer   June 25, 2008

My old hand cranked tin opener had seen better days and was slipping on cans and becoming rusty so it was time to get a new one. I stumbled across this item while searching Amazon and remembered seeing these things on TV. Now most of these things you see on shopping TV dont seem to live up to expectations but the reviews on Amazon gave me the confidence to purchase and I am glad I did. The unit is so easy to operate it needs two instructions. Plop it on top of the can, push the button. Thats it, can opened lift the thing off even takes the can lid with it plop the lid in the bin, put the opener away, easy peasy. Takes standard batteries, push button reverse in case it jams, which for me it never has even on slightly deformed cans. The build quality is excellent, feels solid and has some weight but not too much. A must if you struggle with cans as no pressure is required at all.

3 out of 5 stars Not the miracle it's cracked up to be   June 7, 2008

This is a useful bit of kit, but a couple of small flaws need pointing up; it doesn't fully remove the top off the can - every time I've used it I have had to twist the final bit off to remove it. Secondly, it cannot be used on a shiny surface or worktop - this will cause it to slide round (due to the vibration) so the best way to use it is to hold the can still while using the opener - somewhat self-defeating. And it isn't easy to clean, despite the claims of the maker. At around 5-10 it's ok, but not worth any more.

5 out of 5 stars A fabulous little kitchen tool   May 6, 2008

This thing works remarkably well considering it only uses two small AA batteries. Fantastic for people who have problems with their hands, also useful for those who want tins to be opened while they get on with something else!

Place tin on hard surface, place opener on tin, press button, go away and do something else. Come back a few seconds later and your tin is open...no sharp edges, no mess, perfect.

Batteries are easily replaced, the back just slides off, not that I've needed to do so after 3 months so far. I bought two of these, one for myself and one for my parents for Xmas (2007), both have performed faultlessly.

2 out of 5 stars It touched one tin...then the battery died   April 4, 2008

Like other reviewers, i was impressed by the ads for this item and couldn't wait to buy one.
Tried it out using duracell batteries, then the thing died suddenly.

For those who have problems using your hands, when the battery goes, you will have to use a screw driver to access the batteries, which if you receive a dud like my tin opener, will happen more often than not.
Very disappointed with this product.
