Excellent. Really Works Well. September 28, 2008 Andrew Moore (Cowes, Isle of Wight, UK) When my elderly cleaner fell over and broke her arm I bought a Roomba. I am mega glad I did. I know what you are thinking; he can't work as well as a conventional hoover, can he? It's relatively early days but I think he might be better and here's why: 1. I use him every day so my living area gets cleaned every day. As I go out the door in the morning, I flick Robby on and he begins a cleaning routine. 9-times-out-of-10 he is sat back on his charging station when I return home. 2. Robby gets to places you wouldn't normally bother with onesself. He fits under beds and chairs. I like the way he works his way around a table leg. Cool. Okay, admiddedly he does take a lot longer to clean than a human but, hey, who cares? You don't have to be doing it! I find that cables aren't too much of a problem after the first couple of cycles. Just hook them up and Robby will negotiate them fine. He's got his wheel caught over my stairs once, but he didn't fall down the stairs. He just shut down. Cleaning Robby out is a doodle. Just carry him over to the bin and slide out the dirtbox and filter. Done. 10 second job. Studying Robby as he does his work is interesting if you are a geek like me. There is clearly some clever programming gone into working with his various sensors. I like the way he slows down a tad when he is about to bump into something. He can navigate himself out of some pretty horrendous tight spots too. Robby is the main man. I can't wait to see what the 6th generation Roombas do. I will be investing in another Robby then.
THE BEST VACUUM EVER September 10, 2008 Mr. K. Barnard 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This item is simply amazing, so much that when my mom came over from South Africa to visit me she insisted she had to take one home with her, 190.00 courier costs later she has one, lol. I have had mine for nearly a year now and it is amazing. Its perfect for keeping on top of your house cleaning, as i don't always have the time to vacuum 3 times a week as recommended by many house cleaners. I just put this in each room, shut the door and it shuts off when it senses the room is clean, while that is cleaning if have the time to do other things, therefore getting more done in less time. I certainly recommend it, i have both laminate and carpet and it works great on both.
How did I ever manage before. August 6, 2008 S. Harbord (Aberdeenshire) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
It was really an impulse buy, but now a few months on, I wonder how I ever did without "Henry". My girlfriend was starting to get jealous, so I bought her one too - "Jeeves". There is no doubt the Roomba is one of those rare things that you can't see the utility of until you buy it, then it becomes indispensible. I've only recently got into the habit of putting it on as I go to work, previously I would sit and watch it industriously pottering away.... Wasting the time it was saving me! My carpets have never been cleaner. The cats have got used to it. There have been some misadventures. Once it ate about 3 yards of tinsel, another time a cat toy on a string. Both times required a bit of disassembly to sort out but none the worse for wear. Henry's best one was to tip over the cats' water bowl in the kitchen and proceed to wash the kitchen floor for a good half hour - every corner was wet. A wet trail from the kitchen to the docking station in the hallway and a soggy and bedraggled Roomba. I had to do quite a bit of drying out and the sludge in the dust trap and filter was particularly gross to clean out. Whatever - I can not see a future without a Roomba.
My new helper! July 16, 2008 A. Whittle (High Peak, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a fab, must have gadget! Highly entertaining for our family, and encourages everyone to tidy up in case 'iRob' eats their belongings! (Which any caught objects tend to be easily removed from underneath.) We have a dog, and it's amazing how much dog hair is emptied from the tray after each use. He generally finds his way back to the hub each time, unless he vacuums behind a door and inadvertantly shuts himself in. We haven't used the lighthouse gadget yet to enable him to navigate 3 rooms, as we find 3 rooms quite possible without it. He did try to throw himself down the stairs this morning, but I think that was because I plugged the hub in too close to the edge and he set off at fast pace inches away! (Luckily I caught him.) Usually he susses out where the top step ends. Unless we are overworking him and he wants to do himself in! He won't generally fit very far under the sofas, but does the first few inches under if they are not high enough. An amazing time-saving device!
Roaming Roomba. June 29, 2008 Boxer (UK) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Its great... Myself and my Wife were very surprised at how well the robot works and cleans. Contary to the last review we have had no problems with the robot docking on laminate, and it has so far never failed to dock even after cleaning 3 seperate rooms. We set "Robbie" to clean as we leave for work, and come home to clean rooms upstairs or down. We are currently thinking of buying another one so we have a dedicated machine for each floor.
