Fab-but there can be problems September 27, 2008 BBD (Uk) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you've owned a dog, then owning a roomba is a similar experience.Without precautions it can get into rooms you don't want it to venture into, and eat things you'd rather it didn't! Before letting it loose in a room, you have to pick up everything off the floor, and you often have to retrieve things from its mouth! If there is a trailing mobile phone cable around-roomba'll have it and you'll eventually hear a mournful tune as he confesses he's caught up! For all us lazy people out there, roomba will do a perfectly good job. If you're obsessive, then it doesn't get into every corner. If you're obsessive about hoovering, the chance are you'll be doing it yourself anyway on a daily basis. We owned ours a month before it broke and had it fixed through the warranty. This is a common problem which is discussed on many roomba websites. The brushes get tangled up and stop turning. Also the plastic arms on the rotating brush have a nasty habit of garotting themselves and coming off. Replacements can be easily bought, but it is still a bit annoying. We programmed ours to start up every morning. When it broke we boxed it all up again, taped it all up, only to find it continued to come on! We couldn't work out how to over-ride the programme, so tend to just switch it on manually now. Despite the breakdown 4 weeks exactly after buying it, we love our roomba- and nothing is better than sitting reading the paper, drinking coffee and saying "leave me in peace, I'm doing the vacuuming!"
Dyson Is Toast! September 4, 2008 Mr. T. Phelps 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is such a great product. Despite hoovering twice a week our house was always covered by our dog's hair (bless her). It was an endless depressing battle that thanks to Roomba we've finally won! It's much better I expected. It really works well on our wooden floors downstairs and short haired carpets upstairs, getting under furniture and into all the corners. I will continue to clean only now I will start doing all the things that never got done when I had to hoover!
I hit the clean button and then go to work. August 20, 2008 J. D. Stallard (Southampton, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I wondered how any product could be so good that it has so many 5 star reviews of it. I bought one and now I know. It does what it's supposed to do and it does it really well. When I first got it, I watched it cleaning and kept thinking "where's it going now?", it seems illogical at first but to be honest, who cares how it cleans so long as it does. There are some problems that you need to address first though. I live in a bungalow so I let it clean the whole area, unfortunately, if you don't wedge all the doors open, it can trap itself in a room. I've also found it wedged on the feet of a particular piece of furniture. On the plus side, it never moans, doesn't gossip, drink or miss bits through forgetfulness. Also, if you happen to be on your own, setting it off to do a clean can be strangely reassuring! My one nightmare is an Arnold Schwarzenegger look alike figure appearing from thin air one night and calling it great great grandad!
Love it Love it Love it !!!!! August 20, 2008 Mrs. Crease (Plymouth, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought my roomba from the states before the release in the UK so i've had mine now for a little over a year. I loved the first one so much i bought another one for upstairs. what can i say about it? well... it cleans really well, it does take a long time though, however, i tend to put them on and either walk away, or go out, and when i come back the job is done. they take a second to empty, and i can clean the whole of the downstairs of my house with out emptying the dirt box. i have laminate floors in my hall and lounge, tiles in the kitchen and carpets upstairs and it cleans all really well, one small con is that we have a very deep pile rug in the lounge. although it cleans the rug well, it always misses about 2" around the rug where it has a "step up". this is because as it is climbing up to the rug the brushes arent touching the floor, i dont think this would happen if the rug wasnt so deep though. its very entertaining to watch, and when kids come to visit they squeal with delight as they watch the roomba zip around the floor. its also worth mentioning that the build quality is very good and the product robust as we have an 18 month old who insists on trying to ride on it! its a very forgiving robot! it has never damaged any furniture, or marked anything. we give our robots names, as they become affectionately known as marilyn (as in marilyn monrobot) and R2D2, (the white robot). anyway, once you get one i think you'll never go back to doing it yourself, its such fun and so easy! i just wish it did stairs.

I purchased this robotic cleaner not entirely convinced it would do the job. The technology is amazing with obstacle avoidance, stairs etc. I don't think the vacuum capability is much good and it does get stuck on carpet edges and fringes on occasion. It also seems to shed quite a lot of fluff and dirt from its rollers when it changes surface from floor to rug. Overall it is a good product but does not replace a conventional vacuum cleaner.
