Product Description
I'm comparing this to my old Braun foil shaver, no competition. A nice quiet operation, even when shaving. I can now see the advantage of the circular, rotary heads, its very nice to be able to shave in any direction without having to struggle and twist it about, and it just floats across your face, imagine a cylinder lawnmower (foil) and a hover lawnmower (rotary)... The shave is nice and close and doesn't leave a light stubble like my old one, and being able to wash it under a tap is a HUGE bonus, you can't use it in the shower, but dry shaving is no problem at all with this. My skin isn't highly sensitive, but I get very vey little irritation when using this, nothing at all compared to the old again. The multi directional aspect of it is very useful, as my facial hair grows in every direction possible.

1 out of 5 stars Leaked and failed   May 21, 2008

Leaked and failed just outside 2 year warranty period. Asked if this was normal, Philips said: "We are unable to give an 'expected lifetime' for our products as this depends on many variables such as the frequency and way they are used. I can say that cases like this are very rare and shavers normally don't leak through their casings. Unfortunately you are outside of the warranty period, so any repairs will be chargeable." Shaver usage variable? I think not!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!   May 7, 2008

First thing I can say is that its very smooth, in every respect of the word.

Compared to other rotary shavers, I couldn't comment, as this is my first, but the build quality is good, as I've heard about most Philips shavers. It was reccommended by a friend who has the model above, although the only difference between the two seems to be a couple of extra LED lights for battery levels on the upper model, I certainly can't see the justification for the price hike.

I used to use the trimmer on my old foil shaver to clear the thicker hair before I used the main shaving head, because I left it so long between shaves (it was that bad) this one seems to be able to cope with about 3-4 days growth easily, even without the trimmer, but it won't be getting left to get like that again.

The manual says that it can take upto 3 weeks to become used to the system, and, like other reviews I've read, I can say that on the first shave it felt great, I'd call that 0 weeks.

The stated battery life of 17 days is impressive too, thats using it daily for shaving. A lot of the shavers I looked at before could only hold enough charge for 2 or 3 shaves at a time, yes they have quick charge, but so does this one!

It also came with a handy charging stand, which is a bonus because the shaver is moulded nicely to fit in the hand and doesn't rest easily on flat surfaces. It also comes with a travel bag.

If you're looking at electric shavers, I would say that Philips, and rotary head shavers in general, are the way to go, more expensive models make it harder to justify the price, so I think this has just the right balance, and I'll be using it for a long time to come.

I hope this is useful to you!
