The worst Toaster in the world EVER. August 8, 2008 Mr. S. Gilchrist (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the worst toaster in the world EVER (as far as i am aware / concerned) you could buy. I grant you it looks nice, and I brought this along with the matching kettle (another product not to touch, and which I have just reviewed) and blender (ok so far, but it get's little use). I brought the toaster several months before I moved house, and it remained in its packaging until then, within a few days of light use it failed to work correctly. Once you slid the handle down the electronics system would fail to respond and all the toast would have burst in to flames unless someone was their to constantly monitor it and manually eject the toast. The toaster was sent back via one of Philips (bad)"service centers" this process in its self took months, and tons of phone calls. And then when we finally got a replacement toaster guess what?, yep, that's right folks! It managed to toast an astounding 2 slices of toast before it failed in the same manor. After the appalling customer service I suffered (the reason I didn't even bother to return the worst kettle in the world), the only thing I am going to do now is count my losses and try and buy a decent toaster next time. Actually, I might take the sledge hammer to it for therapy, just before before it goes in the bin. Between the toaster and the kettle Philips have ensured that i never buy another product from them again ever, I just hope that I never have the misfortune of being hooked up to any of their medical equipment. I would have left this review sooner but these things always take longer to get around to than you expect. PS. Just so everyone knows, Im not the sort of person who complains lightly, In fact I am quite sure that the Philips toaster and kettle are the only things ive ever left any form of detailed review about. Im leaving this review so other people can avoid the problems I have had and because I feel strongly that these products are DANGEROUS, and because Philips customer service is appalling, and they aren't interested.
Form over Function December 6, 2007 Korky (Suffolk, UK) Not bad, but definitely not great. Like others, we've struggled to get even toasting and the toasting increments don't seem to work very well. If you slice your own bread too (or use breadmaker bread) then you'll struggle to get 2 slices in. As if all this isn't bad enough, ours just popped (literally - quite a loud bang) after 10 months service. Lucky to get 2 stars TBH - close to a single but the good looks and useful timing indicator just drag it back up. UPDATED: Our replacement failed after 2 months! Amazon aren't bothering to send a replacement either "..problem is more widespread than we originally thought...". My advice is DON'T TOUCH THIS ITEM :( If I could, I'd reduce to zero stars now...
quickly died November 4, 2007 A. Duckworth (sussex) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After one month the electronic control died. toast now burns unless watched in a hawk-like manner. Soon to be replaced.
Great for a month or two September 4, 2007 Mr. D. M. Newbould (uk) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We have had two of these now, and both have broken after a couple of months use. Great while it works but am now on the long quest to find another toaster that lasts. Looks great but now none of the buttons work, have to manually extract the toast. Wouldnt recommend it.
Do not buy this toaster! June 21, 2007 ToasterBoy (Leeds, England) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is easily the worst toaster I've ever owned...yep, worse than the 5 jobs from Argos. Went back asap, but not after I did some exhaustive toasting in my quest to find a decent toaster (see other forthcoming reviews - KitchenAid..Dualit..Kenwood...they're all gonna be tested). Negative Points: 1) It toasts terribly, the worst I've ever seen in my life. One edge gets burned and smoke starts filling the kitchen, pop it up and the other diagonal half is completely untoasted bread! Looking at the element, it is just a cheap one, with completely uneven spacing and winding. I'm not being fussy here - the toasting is literally one-area-burned, other-area-uncooked. It was so unbelievable I felt compelled to take photos of the toast...if I can find a way to put them on here I will! 2) It's supposed to be cool-wall. It isn't. The wall gets very hot, you could easily burn yourself. 3) You have to cycle through pressing one button to get to different options. Eg 5 presses to go from frozen to normal bread. 4) The 'countdown' timer only counts down in seconds during the last minute of toasting. Before that, it only shows to the nearest 30 seconds...eg 2min, 1min30sec, 60sec, 59, 58... I have to stay, still a good feature. 5) It topples over easily - may need some blu-tak! 6) Speed of toasting is average-to-good, not as quick as it claims. Positive points: 1) It looks good. 2) Countdown timer - great feature. Shame you won't have edible toast to look forward to...
