4 out of 5 stars It works for me, but ...   June 26, 2008
B. PERRY (St Annes, UK)
I've used it for months now and I love it, however, it may not suit everyone. I use a large cup for my cappuccino
and the two cup coffee filter almost full. To make two I have to do it all again, fortunately this is rare (wife likes tea) Using small cups you could make two cappuccino's together.
Someone complained of noise - it's slightly noisier than boiling a kettle but only for about 20 seconds.
Someone complained of half hour to heat up - instructions also tell you the quick method which is seconds.
Someone complained of milk not frothing - I have had no problem, read the instructions!
For the money and for one (me) it does the job.

I was a bit apprehensive in buying this machine as you always see those MASSIVE coffee machines in Starbucks, Costa, Nero, etc And then when you see how small this one is, you think it's gonna be a letdown.....

But this machines is really awesome and I really love it !!

If you buy this.........your life will be better :)

4 out of 5 stars Excellent machine for little money   May 19, 2008

I received this as a gift after reading great reviews here. I wasn't disappointed, the high pressure makes perfect "crema" espressos and the steamer is more than capable of the job. I use fresh water every time (even overnight it will taste of plastic from the storage vessel). Semi skimmed milk straight from the fridge froths to 2/3 times it's volume for perfect cappuccinos.

The only criticisms are that the tamping thing (pressing down coffee) comes out easily for cleaning but the milk frothing nozzle doesn't, so you can end up with dried milk deposits inside the plastic nozzle. The steamer sometimes needs a rest to recharge half way until the light comes back on. The drip tray is very shallow and vibrates easily so you need to hold the cup in place whilst the pump is running else it will move away from the nozzles.

Overall though, very nice coffee from a low priced machine. Certainly good value compared to the traditional Italian branded devices at 4x the price.

4 out of 5 stars Frothy Coffee   May 3, 2008

I make about 6 cappuccino a day and wanted a more compact machine to leave on my work surface. I don't like strong coffee so use instant. For a very quick frothy coffee, boil the water first and put a mug full in the reservoir - no need to put cold in and wait 30 mins. When the light comes on to say steam is ready, just leave a few more moments and then you will only get steam coming out of the nozzle. When water comes out too it means there is insufficient steam in the system. Fill any strong mug either with skimmed or semi skimmed milk straight from the fridge and 9 out of 10 times you will get the perfect frothy coffee. I say 9 out of 10 times because occasionally the milk doesn't froth as well and this can be down to that particular carton of milk or that a residue is either in the mug or on the steam nozzle. Although when this has happened I've used the same milk on a later occasion and obtained a perfect result, so could be down to residue on mug or nozzle - it is certainly NOT the machine as this happens occasionally on any make.

I always boil the water first as apart from being only a minute before it produces steam I feel boiling up the water in the plastic container can make the coffee taste a little plastic. Always use fresh water every time, because of this. Not too sure about using the machine for coffee beans though because when I first bought it, you need to flush water through the machine about 6 times and the cup did vibrate on the stand and needed to be held and the motor was very noisy.

Perfect though for what I wanted - quick frothy instant cappuccino and as good as any of the hundreds I buy when out. Top with Cadbury's chocolate sprinkler and voila - a drop of Baileys makes it even more special - but watch the calories!!

1 out of 5 stars Poor design and output   April 19, 2008

Awkwardly designed, - need tiny cups to fit in. The frother is absolute rubbish, filling the cup up with water and a pathetic quality steam. It looks too cheap to be any good, and believe me it certainly is
