shocking price of coffee August 7, 2008 veelund (Scotland) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Nescafé Dolce Gusto Coffee Machine by KRUPS - Black KP200040 Let me get the good news out of the way first! The machine is everything other reviewers have stated, quick, convenient etc. etc. Now for the bad news ........... Before continuing please bear in mind the following facts; the average English tea cup holds 175ml, the supplied cup & glass both hold about 250ml, one English coffee cup holds about 80ml. Please bear with me, the point of this is about to be revealed! One pod of cafe lungo makes 110 to 120 ml of coffee, the more astute of you will notice that this is less than a quite small English tea cup, the espresso pod makes 60ml of coffee (I'm not conjuring these figures up , they're stated on the box!) Two mouthfulls of good to average coffee! It gets worse - should you be so unwise as to buy the cappuccino you will pay the same 3.80 for 8 coffee pods and 8 milk pods (milk? really indifferent creamer) which will give you 200ml of yukky gunge and 40ml of coffee. Latte Macchiato? 50ml of coffee on top of 170ml of gunge. IT GETS WORSE! The black coffees (espresso & lungo) cost the equivalent of 6.56 for a standard bag of coffee, EVEN WORSE, the packs of coffee and creamer cost precisely the same ( 3.28) for 8 coffee pods and 8 creamer pods, you are now paying 58.57 for 1kilo of coffee and by extension, the same for creamer!)! This is closely approaching the cost of the finest coffees in the world - and believe me, Nescafe Dolce Gusto comes nowhere near! When we brought this we must have left our brains in a cupboard! If you like convenience and your coffee on the mild side, don't care what you pay for it then buy it and keep Nestle coffers overflowing!
Best Coffee I have ever tasted July 7, 2008 Brian Hamilton (Scotland, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Before I wax lyrical about how cool this machine is, let me state one very important fact; it makes the best coffee I have ever tasted. If that doesn't send you out to buy one you simply have no soul or don't like coffee. Which is pretty much the same thing. Anyway, if you have read previous reviews you will know that the ever expanding line of coffee has lattes, cappucinos, espressos, mochas, chococino etc. The basic coffee is called cafe lungo and you get sixteen per pack from the supermarket. When I bought the machine I had visions of sipping lattes like the sophisticate I am (not). And yes, the lattes and the rest of the two pod coffees are great but the lungos are something else. They will absolutely blow you away, the taste is just sensational. I use this machine at least three times a day and two of those uses are for lungo's. The machine comes with a sample pack of all the different coffees so you can find your own addiction. One important thing that previous reviewers didn't mention much about is the free cup and glass that comes with the machine. When you use the machine it doesn't automatically stop, you have to flip the lever to the off position to stop the flow of water. This makes dispensing the correct amount of water critical and the included cups are perfect as you fill it to a certain level (such as the top of the handle). I have used different cups and have found it quite difficult to judge accurately. This has resulted in a couple of watery coffees which are weak tasting so I would advise you to beware and try to use the included crockery. In conclusion, the machine looks fantastic, is simple to use and has very few moving parts to go wrong and most important of all the coffee is sensational. I use this machine daily and really can't recommend it highly enough.
good but.......... July 6, 2008 Fezzy (London, England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Im the kind of person that likes to push a button and the machine will do all the work, and this is probably the only machine that comes close to my lazy dreams! However you do have to use their coffee pod refill things, which arent that cheap. The cappuccino, latte are probably the best. However i cant find one which is strong but has an acceptable taste, something like a strong cappuccino. Most of them are coffee but mild. I do recommend it, but i for me i think its cheaper to use the coffee machines in the offices/universities, which have similiar tastes but stronger if you want to do late night work etc.
Great value for money and great coffee!! July 4, 2008 Ms. T. Hobday (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this for our office and it has been absolutely brilliant! The choice of beverages is great - something for everyone, the capsules aren't too expensive and they're often on special offer at supermarkets. The coffee is good quality even for the picky coffee drinkers in our office, it's quick, easy to use and robust!
Anyone for coffee ?? June 18, 2008 L. Williams (Manchester, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As someone who is normally a dedicated tea drinker, I was persuaded to buy this machine when my friend brought one into work for me to try. I was amazed at the speed and simplicity, not to mention the fabulous tasting coffee !! I've had mine for a couple of months now, and use it regularly. It is beautifully designed, easy to set up, use, and keep clean. I've had no problems getting the capsules from my local ASDA or Tesco. All in all I am completely happy with my purchase, and would definitely recommend it.
