Amazon.co.uk Review Fresh pineapple has a tropical, delicious taste, but many folks can't figure out how to get past this fruit's thorny exterior to the sweet inside and so resort to buying those perfect little rings in a can. This pineapple slicer peels, cores and slices a fresh specimen in less than 30 seconds so there is no excuse for ever buying canned pineapple again. To use this ingenious little tool, you must first cut the top off your fresh pineapple. Next, place the slicer in the middle of the pineapple and push down while turning the handle in a clockwise motion. Pull the slicer straight out of the pineapple and--voila!--your perfect little rings come out with the tool while the rough shell stays behind. Finally, simply slide the handle off the slicer and the pineapple rings slide off with it. The pineapple shell remains intact so you can use it as a dessert bowl or as a glass for piña coladas. The slicer comes with three blades to tackle pineapples of any size. This tool has garnered several prestigious design awards from all over the world, including Germany's Award for Good Industrial Design, Holland's ION's Good Industrial Design award, and Japan's MITI Award for Excellent Foreign Product. --Cristina Vaamonde, Amazon.com

Comparison September 19, 2008 J. Buchan (Manchester, UK) I bought this along with the metal version which can be found here:Vacu Vin Easy Slicer Stainless Steel I prefer the metal one (the reasons for which can be read in my review there) but I still like this one for all the reasons the other reviewers have stated. Little tip: When you've reached the bottom carry on turning the slicer but pull up so that the slicer finishes the strip it's cut to make it easier to pull out.
Vacuvin Pineapple Easy Slicer set of 3 (small, medium & large) June 10, 2008 M. A. Cameron (Great Britain) I am so impressed by this item that I buy pineapples all the time now instead of just once in a while. What a fantastic piece of kit.
brilliant gadget - makes preparing pineapple a doddle! June 8, 2008 T. Crawley (Wiltshire UK) This is one of the best gadgets I've come across. We have been receiving pineapples weekly in our fruit and veg box for a couple of months now. We all love pineapple but preparing it has been such a chore... till now! The vacuvin pineapple slicer is exactly that - it makes preparing pineapple super-quick, mess free, and it reduces wastage. What's more, the slices look really uniform and professional! And rather than a sticky mess at the end, all the juice is collected at the bottom of the skin -so you get a glass of freshly squeezed pineapple juice every time! fantastic - I only wish I'd bought one sooner!
It does what it says on the box! April 1, 2008 Lynda Hall (London UK) What a natty little gadget, easy to use and perfect pineapple rings every time! Smashing!
Much better than using a knife January 11, 2008 Richard Kelly (Manchester, England) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My wife and children love fresh pineapple so for years I would buy one, slice off the outsides, top and bottom and throw huge quantities of it in the bin. By chance my mother in law found one of these is a kitchen shop somewhere and recommended it to me, I am glad that she did. To use you just select the correct sized blade (I always buy big pinapples so it's the largest one for me) and attach the handle. Slice the top off, get the blade centered on your pineapple and twist. There is a central core on the blade that wraps itself around the hard core of the pineapple, and the blade slices the flesh into a spiral. When you hit the bottom just pull and the flesh lifts out whilst the core is left. HURRAH Slice the flesh into chuncks and eat. A couple of things to point out 1. Lots of juice will come out so make sure you have something on hand to pour it into , otherwise it will come out of top of the pineapple and be wasted. 2. Over time the handle will become lose, if you pull too hard then tt will come off. Remember that the fruit should be quite soft so tease it out rather than yanking as hard as possible. 3. Even though it is made of plastic my blades still continue to cut through pineapples even though I've had them for several months. A quality idea, well implemented.
