Product Description
Save energy and money with Eco Kettle - the best selling eco gadget in the UK, at the lowest available price from Ethicalsuperstore.com. Until now, accurately measuring the amount of water to be boiled in your kettle has been all but impossible. The result? It is estimated that, on average, we boil twice the volume of water needed every time. Which means twice as much energy, twice as much time. With a 3kW kettle that’s the same as wasting the energy of around 50 light bulbs! The Eco Kettle is different: its internal reservoir holds a full capacity of water ready for use, while the measuring button allows any quantity – from a single cupful to full capacity – to be released into the separate chamber for boiling. The result? Exactly the right amount of water every time you boil – and no more waste. The Eco Kettle has been approved by the Good Housekeeping Institute and is recommended by Powergen as a pioneering product in the battle to save energy in the nation's homes. During independent consumer trials directed by the Energy Saving Trust, the Eco Kettle used over 30% less energy than standard kettles. Eco Kettle features include: - 3kW stainless steel concealed heating element
- Steam control and boil-dry protection
- Cordless; 360 degree base with cord storage
- Locking lid with illuminated on-off switch
- Washable limescale filter
- 230 volts AC
- 1.5 litre capacity
- 12 months warranty

Could be a dangerious problem ! October 11, 2008 Steve M (UK) Brought this kettle to do my thing for the enviroment and like the concept of it but basically its nothing that couldn't be done with a normal kettle by only filing with the required amount of water needed. One problem I have found which I feel could be a potential hazard is that if you boil slightly too much water, after tipping the required amount out, as you return the kettle to the upright position boiling hot water and steam come shooting out the spout all over the work top.... I haven't had it catch me yet but I suspect the consequences could be a severe scauld/burn it it did. Also it is very heavy when the resovour is full of water making it unsuitable for an older person or with joint problems.
Heavy and difficult to use. September 5, 2008 Prof TBun (Birmingham UK) I was extremely disappointed by this kettle. A healthly adult may not find it too much trouble to operate, but for children, the disabled and elderly it is useless. My mum couldn't work out how to use it at all. The kettle is very HEAVY. Empty it weighs in at 1.3 Kg which is TWICE the weight of an ordinary kettle. The lid is awkward to open and the shape makes it difficult to fill. The small ON light is impossible to see from most angles. The valve release requires too much pressure for less able people to use. The spout I didn't like either. I was never confident when and where the boiling water was going to go. The on switch has failed after 2 months of light use. This switch is badly designed and relies on springs which are likely to fail with use. On the plus side, it did boil a cup of water effectively in a speedy 15 secs. Is so wanted to like this product, but it has too many down sides.
So far, so good! August 22, 2008 Darchaeg (Edinburgh, UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
We just purchased this kettle on 18 August 2008 and have had it a few days now. We were worried by the negative reviews given by other Amazon users, but we have not found any of the problems these reviews mention. I'll go through the main negative points mentioned in the reviews and hopefully this will help others make a decision about whether to buy this kettle. 1. The 'spitting' or 'scalding' issue: We have not experienced this problem at all. It's possible our kettle is a newer version that has corrected this problem, but it's impossible to tell. I have poured the kettle immediately upon boiling and the pouring is smooth, no 'spitting' or 'scalding' at all. 2. "The kettle is too heavy": The kettle itself is not heavy. If you fill the kettle's reservoir quite high so you do not have to return to the tap very often, the amount of water you put in will obviously make it heavy. This would be true of any kettle because it's the weight of the water that's the issue! 3. "The button to release the water is too stiff": This may be a problem if you have disability issues, especially arthritis. Otherwise, yes it's a bit stiff, but we have not found it to be a problem. It may loosen up with use. 4. "The amount suggested for a cuppa is too small": This is really nit-picky, as you release the amount you want by simply holding down the button. Experiment a few times and you'll figure out exactly how much your favourite mug actually needs. Make a mental note of that amount reached in the boiling chamber, and you'll always know how long to hold the button. It's a tiny bit of guesswork, but hardly a fault of the kettle or the manufacturers. Everyone has different sizes of tea cups and mugs. Maybe in future the manufacturers should give different gradients on the side of the boiling chamber that corresponds to different mug sizes.
Eco Kettle goes Kapput August 17, 2008 Sa Coulthard (UK) I originally loved this kettle: saves energy, boils faster and is a big tick in the 'green' product box. Once you got used to filling the boiling chamber, it even became second nature to use. However, it just keeps breaking. The first one we had leaked water from the lid when you poured it and thus needed changing. Had the replacement for about 10 months and in that time it's blown one fuse, which I replaced, and has now has just mysteriously died. It's not like it has had intensive use either, perhaps being used twice a day. It's a real shame and I won't be buying a 3rd!
