5 out of 5 stars 15 years and counting ....   July 7, 2008

I'm pretty sure this is the model I have, it looks identical but I can't be sure because it's now so old the writing's wiped off. This is the second I've had, the first bought in the early 1980s gunked up when I used it to blend something wet (NOT A GOOD IDEA) and my current one I bought from the local Oxfam store for 5 in the early 90s). Still going strong and producing excellent grinds though I may upgrade to a 'burr' grinder soon after the recent acquisition of an espresso maker (though I'll no doubt hang on to this one as a reserve). Why has it lasted so long? I'm not sure, other than the build quality, I tend to grind in bursts of a few seconds rather than just sticking my thumb down for half a minute (which I'm sure also helps to grind effectively). Recommended :)

4 out of 5 stars Not just for coffee!!   March 10, 2008

In fact, I don't use it for coffee at all!

It does a great job on: Sugar, nuts, spices

Not so hot on: Fresh herbs ( tends to be a bit soggy)

Only down-side is that the plastic ring under the blade nut has cracked and is staring to come away. hasn't stopped it working though (yet).

4 out of 5 stars WOW " machine can grind a mountain " !!!!   January 22, 2008

Actually I believed in previous reviewers and bought this........not for coffee grinding but for grinding Indian spices. I am not sure whether its going to work for me........finger's crossed!!
WOW........... This is the type of grinder i am looking for....
Its the best an indian household can get for preparing chutney's, spicy powders, pastes (ginger, garlic, onion)

BAD things about this machine......not much
1. I wish Braun makes a bigger machine like this....
2. Sometimes the blade gets stuck, just put some kind of oil between blades attachment to the base.... to lubricate the motor.
3. Cleaning is bit messy.. but remember to drain it upside down.

Overall this small, simple machine works as a TRANSFORMER..!!!

3 out of 5 stars Seems very flimsy   January 4, 2008

I'm relieved to see that other owners rate this so highly because to me it seems like a very bad design and I can't believe it's going to last for one year, let alone 20 years. I don't know if the design has changed over the years but the plastic plunger used to start the blades on this latest model is very, very flimsy. That said it does grind spices OK, although no better than my 20-year old Kenwood grinder, which was a much better design and was still going strong until recently when the plastic top broke beyond repair.

5 out of 5 stars Very good grinder   December 27, 2007

I use mine for grinding whole spices to make curries and it does this just great. You can grind things to a fine powder in a few seconds and it sure beats sweating over a mortar and pestle.
