It's only now I've consulted these reviews of the Cordova - unfortunately!
We bought one in Feb. 2007 and it was fine for a while. Not brilliant in design we concluded, as the level indicator is masked by the handle, the lid is a bit awkward and doesn't spring open wide enough, on it's own, to facilitate filling.
Then, after a while we began to notice water on the worktop underneath the kettle. For months we put it down to spillage from careless filling - though we all denied doing it!
This went on for months until eventually we became more suspicious, were very careful not to spill and came to the conclusion that it was definitely leaking!
By this time it was nearly 6 months out of warranty but we decided nevertheless to return it to Salton for their review and advice. We explained that it had clearly been leaking for some considerable time and certainly before the expiry of the warranty period.
In response they said that repairs could not be effected but we could have a discounted replacement on payment of 13.99 - or the old defective unit returned at a cost of 5.50 handling charge.
Having spent 4.20 to post it to them in the first place we decided to cut our losses and let them throw it away!
Another reviewer wondered where the quality that once was synonymous with this brand had gone - we can but ponder the same question!
We shall choose from another manufacturer's range from now on.

As others have said, it's a nice design and looks smart, but what use is a kettle that leaks?

This was an elegant looking kettle but was very noisy.It leaked from the start.I have always admired the design and quality of Russell Hobbs Kettles in the past and was very disappointed to find this did not give me the quality and design I had expected.It looked great and was ideal for arthritic hands as balance was good but what use is a leaking kettle.

My parents bought this kettle with a year guarantee. It simply stopped working a couple of months outside the guarantee for no apparent reason. On calling Russell Hobbs Customer Services and explaining the problem the only advice given was to try to descale it, but to no avail. Basically they have had to throw it away and have purchased a Stainless steel Frigidaire kettle similar design, at less than half the price and it works fine. One has to question whether there is the quality there once was with Russell Hobbs. They have lost a loyal cutomer.

I have had my Cordova kettle since January 2006, and it started leaking about a month ago. After the kettle boils, water spits out from the on/off button area at the bottom. If the kettle is quite full, water also leaks from other areas of the base. I have now bought a new kettle as I am worried about the danger. This new one has a 2 year guarantee - shame Russell Hobbs don't offer the same.
Other things I didn't like about the kettle, but just lived with, are those mentioned by earlier reviewers. You need to use 2 hands to close the lid - one to hold back the catch, and the other to push the lid down. However, I have perfected the technique with one hand now. The other point is that the water level indicator is obscured by the handle, and with condensation it is often hard to see the water level even if you peer closely.
Smart though it looks, I definitely wouldn't recommend this kettle.
