1 out of 5 stars Breadmaker Problem   October 10, 2008

Panasonic breadmaker SD254
I recently purchased the Pansonic breadmaker model SD254. Initially the results were great and then as was the case with one of your reviewers the paddle was almost spinning on the spindle. Apart from the obvious bad baking results my concern was that if there was residual material coming from the paddle or spindle, and if so where was it going. I have reported the matter to Panasonic but their response was less then enthusiastic in fact they do not offer any explanation. I would have thought that they would have shown at least some concern as to possible health hazards especially in a food processing application.

5 out of 5 stars Don't Buy Any Other   October 5, 2008
Suzy (South Wales, UK)
If you want to make your own bread on a regular basis don't buy any other bread maker. I bought the compact morphy richards and thought it was quite good until I bought the Panasonic. The differences are huge, first the bread is much nicer and nowhere near as heavy. It lasts for at least 3 days whereas the other one only lasted 1 day before it was stale. It is much quicker to prepare as you don't have to grease the tin at all (a real pain). The fast bake loaves are nearly as excellent as the 5 hr ones. Buy the white plastic slicing guide from either amazon or lakeland and use an electric knife only (make sure the blade is not too short) to slice your fresh bread - keep it in the green veg bags from lakeland - you won't go back to shop bought bread as one slice of this bread keeps you going for hours. Also unless you want rye bread or can't be bothered to add sultanas etc when it beeps you don't need the more expensive one, they are exactly the same except the other one has a nut/fruit dispenser and a separate blade for rye bread.

2 out of 5 stars Size of bread   October 3, 2008

I have just bought this item as it seems to be the best breadmaker according to most reviews, but I am quite disappointed with its performance. I have used it about 5 times now within a week and each time it is getting worse. There is only 1 size of bread, regardless of the 3 size options you select. Also in my last 2 attempts, the flour sticks to the sides at the bottom. What a waste! I am careful to put in the correct amount of ingredients to be used, it looks very easy to follow so where could I have gone wrong? Anybody had the same problems like me but found a solution?

Can i just say that i'm not one to part with my hard earned cash very easily but after 2 months of reading reviews, i bought the SD 254 and have never looked back.
It takes me 5 minuets to put all the ingrediants in and press the program button and off we go, 2 hours later i have fab bread. This machine is easy to use, load and clean
So give it a go

3 out of 5 stars Reliability Concerns Panasonic Breadmaker SD254/255   September 15, 2008

Our SD254 is now 3 months old. On receipt I noticed, in comparison with our previous breadmakers... the paddle was slightly loose. Now I can attest the lateral movement is from 12 - 2 O'clock (about 30 degrees), it has degraded. Furthermore, the bread pan itself does not lock in position and is also loose in it's seating. I e-mailed Panasonic who stated the paddle looseness was normal and a required trait to allow movement (what a load of twoddle). My next move is to contact Panasonic over a warranty claim... this machine will not last a year... Presently I can actually fit a paper clip between the paddle and shaft. I believe this is a fundamental design flaw... more to follow perhaps.
