1 out of 5 stars Horrible taste   August 28, 2008
Dr. Andrew Shribman (Cheshire, UK)

Used for over a month and tea and coffee still taste horrible.Awaiting response from Morphy Richards. Interestingly not everyone seems to be able to detect the metallic taste, my wife who is very sensitive to milk on the turn when I think it's ok, didn't believe me about the horrible taste until visitors started complaining! This product should be withdrawn.

1 out of 5 stars persistent chemical tatse after 4 days use   August 10, 2008
K. T. Cunningham (U.K.)
Product reference material for new usage states it is necessary to discard the first amount of boiled water. This was done, but the next boil still produced a chemical smelling water. The taste of the tea was tainted by a chemical taste and smell. Four days late after about fifty boils of the kettle, the kettle smells, the boiled water smells and obviously the product is not fit for purposw.

3 out of 5 stars The taste is a pain to get rid of but....   May 1, 2008
J Smith (Staffordshire)
Yes, the taste/smell is a real pain to get rid of and clearly a fault in the product, so I'll be emailing the manufacturer about this. But it does go eventually - after 10 boils it was still quite strong so I scrubbed the inside with some ecover washing-up liquid and it's fine now. Of course, this should not be necessary, but if Morphy Ric could fix this defect, then it would be a super little kettle - very stylish, easy to fill and really nice to use ONCE you get rid of the worrying smell!!!

The taste has returned. Thought it had disappeared but I was drinking coffee then. Now I've switched to tea, I can really notice a horrible taste. Will be returning the kettle.

1 out of 5 stars what a shame   April 26, 2008
angel (bude devon)
this is just a very quick review , i had the soprano kettle before this model and it was a fantastic kettle in every way, i read all the reviews on this model and was suprised to see a 1 star rating. it said about the fact there was a funny taste, i decided to ignore this hoping it may have been a dud one,how ever i have had the same problem and i have boiled and chucked away the water at least a dozen times. such a shame as i liked the look and feel of this kettle, but the taste has not gone away ,prehaps i too have a dud one but i think it must be to do with the element, i hope this helps you .

1 out of 5 stars Bad paint job   April 25, 2008

I have had no problem with the taste in my kettle, although my son says he had, but the paint finsh started to deteriorate almost immediately, at first I thought I had scratched it but soon spots started to appear all over the kettle and my son is experiencing the same problem, I have a black one, my son a cream one, I am aware that several other people have had the same experience although I believe Morphy Richards do not seem to think there is a problem, however, mine has gone back and like a previous reviewer I am left with a matching toaster. I did look at replacing the kettle with a similar model but on checking the one on display I found it had the beginnings of the same paint deterioration.
