the worst kettle ever made July 12, 2008 David Mcauley (Northampton, England) DeLonghi KBM3011 Metropolis Grey Finish Kettle This has to be the worst kettle ever made. I have owned it for 18 months to go with the four slice toaster i bought. It now leaks water out of the bottom of the handle and has had to be thrown away. It is heavy, you can't take out the water filter, the plastic handle on the lid snapped off making it impossible to fill when it's hot. The on/off switch came up before the water was boiled. The list is endless. I need to buy a new one but it must match the toaster so they have you by the balls. The plus side is that it is quite nice to look at. Great Italian craftsmanship. Just like an alfa romeo looks good but something always goes wrong!!!! don't buy.
What a poor quality product! June 18, 2008 Chris (Manchester, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I also find the kettle difficult to lift safely when full, but how do you know its full as the indicator is hard to read? After a couple of months use the handle became detached from the lid. I fixed it, but within 24 hours it was off again. We then used it without the lid (ever tried removing a hot metal kettle lid without a handle?) - big mistake because it didn't switch off automatically when boiled and we were not in the room for 10 minutes - when we returned the kitchen was full of steam.
Poor design May 18, 2008 A. B. Mcmullon (Carterton, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Design isn't just about looking good (and even there I hate the ugliness of this kettle, but that's just my opinion). Good design for a kitched appliance must also include attention to practicality and usablity. Ergonomically this kettle is almost impossible to hold for filling and carrying when full because it's all out of balance putting a great strain on the hand gripping it tightly and on the muscles in the wrist and forearm. OK you won't be carrying it far but it still feels bad. Also the lid and top opening is very small, hard to remove when hot and awkward to fill through - and it must be removed in order to fill the kettle. The removable filter on the spout is likewise awkward to remove and replace - and if you live in a hard water area you will need to remove and clean this at least once a month. Even if you are attracted by the looks save your money and look elsewhere.
Worst Kettle I've Ever Owned March 5, 2008 Mrs. L. S. Andrews (London UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The only good thing about this kettle is it's lovely retro look. Everything else about it is awful in my opinion. I have to agree with other people that there is a definate odd taste to water from this kettle. The gun metal grey finish chips off very easily and soon makes the kettle look very tatty. The 'metal' lid, handle and switch are just shiny plastic and look very tacky. The kettle is very heavy and the lid is very hard to remove and replace. The tiny handle on the lid is very flimsy and is just connected with one tiny screw which manages to work it's way loose at least once a week. If you buy this kettle keep a screwdriver handy as you will need to keep tightening the handle. I also bought the matching toaster and that's been fine, but once again has that very tacky shiny 'metal' look to it.
Delonghi Metropolis Kettle February 19, 2008 Mrs. R. J. C. Mcgurk (West Sussex UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have just bought the kettle from you and have been using it for a few days. I don't usually bother writing these reviews, but I am SO disappointed with it that I would like to let other people know my thoughts. I wish I'd read the other reviews before buying! It is NOISY! The handle is too smooth, therefore slippery. The fill gauge is almost impossible to see. The on switch is horrid plastic. It is heavy even when nearly empty. The lid is not easy to lift off for filling. The only positive is that it looks good. Why bother, I'd rather have an ugly one....
