Great machine - nice coffee !! June 23, 2008 B. Christie (East Yorkshire, UK) We've had our Dualit percolator for 18 months now and never get tired of using it. It makes a fine cup of coffee and although there are some grounds they soon settle at the bottom. We like strong coffee so tend to fill the basket a tad higher than the guide recommends. The only problem we have had was two weeks ago when the back of the plug came away when I pulled it from the socket. It wouldn't have been a problem to just change it but since the plug is moulded I did not want to invalidate the warranty. I sent Dualit a letter and photograph of the plug. Just six days later a new base plate arrived in the post. Excellent customer service on the part of Dualit !
Knob keeps breaking January 28, 2008 Mark (Kent) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I originally bought this 3 years ago for an xmas gift for my partner. We expected a no-nonsense coffee maker that would last. After a few months use, the plastic knob on the lid snapped off making it unusable as the coffe percolates through the lid. Their customer services were very helpful and send another one. A few months later, the same thing happened again, we were sent a second replacement. Shortly afterwards, I accidentally submerged the base in a bowl of water when washing up. As there are holes in the side, the water flooded into the electrics. It took weeks before it was usuable again. This morning, for the 3rd times, the knob sheared off again - all I was doing was taking the lid off to wash up. Other niggles are. about 1 in 20 times, you think you are brewing coffee and the green light comes on to tell you it it ready but when you go to pour, all you have is hot water. Also, compared to a filter machine, it takes a lot more coffee. Also, the coffee s slightly bitter compared to filter coffee. It looks good and is very solid but sadly didn't live up to expectations. I am now looking for a filter machine to replace it with and it won't be dualit.
Dreadful coffee and broke within a year January 11, 2008 R. Williams (Cambridge UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This percolator makes gritty coffee with little or no flavour. It was used for just under a year (on average 4 times per week) and the lid broke rendering it unusable. Not worth the money.
An excellent cuppa!! January 9, 2008 L. Lethbridge (UK) This is our first percolator, which gets used everyday and so far we have been very pleased. It makes an excellent cup of coffee, very easy to use and clean the only downside is that there is an internal water fill level which is quite tricky to see. But please don't let this put you off buying one. If you've never had one before, try it, you won't be disappointed.
At last! Decent Coffee January 3, 2008 K. J. Bertrand (Suffolk England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have read the other reviews on this product. To those people who say that they are getting grounds in the machine - USE A COARSER GROUND coffee. Cafetiere quality is much too fine. Also, what idiot would want to take the lid of a boiling water vessel. The whole idea of percolating is for the water to rise up the tube and fall back into the basket! I am over the moon to actually get a decent cup of coffee after using cafetieres and filter machines and I don't find it a pain to prepare. For coffee I use the marks on the inside of the basket (very clearly marked), and I measure the water in the mugs I am using.. I can actually taste the coffee. Incidentally, I used a percolator for 25 years, and it worked exactly the same.
