Worst ever April 20, 2008 Kimco (Cheshire UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this product and sent it back to Amazon because I thought it was faulty!! I received a sescond one and had the same problems! Phillips state that you can use solid fat as long as you melt it separately the first time of use. This I did. When I came to use it a second time - it bleeped that it was ready for use - but a layer of fat was unmelted under the elements. It does not have a separate cooking bowl. This is the worst deep fat fryer I have ever used. All previous ones have been very good. Thakfully Amazon are great to deal with and have agreed to give me a complete refund
Unreliable February 28, 2008 Mr. G. Yearling (UK) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought one of these from Argos and within a monthe I was replacing it because it just stopped working. The replacement item has also just stopped working after several months so i am totally unimpressed considering the price of it. Think I'll stay away from Philips products in the future.
Extremely Capable and won't dissapoint October 31, 2007 Mr. A. Thomson (Oxford, UK) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
I took delivery of the fryer roughly 1 week ago, so my comments below are based on having used it roughly 6 or 7 times so far. 1. Its HUGE, you will need a large space to accomodate and despite the filter in the lid, its kicks out a fair amount of steam, so be wary of low hanging ceilings. 2. It uses a lot of oil, roughly 3.5 litres of vegetable oil, so think ahead and make sure you have the means to filter and clean the oil after each use. Currently I strain the oil (when cold) through some Muslin that is housed inside a 4 gallon pasta pan. I have re-used the same oil each time I've used the appliance and I so far have not had any problems with odours, or greasy food. 3. The fryer is extremely efficient at heating the oil up, I have not had to wait more than 1 minute for it to reach a temperature of 190 C. 4. The basket is large enough to accomodate upto 2 KGs of food, however, as the inner bowl is quite wide, the depth of your oil is maybe only 3 inches, so you need to think ahead in terms of the size of the food going into the fryer. My Turbot fillets got stuck on the bottom of the basket on my first attempt because the oil wasn't deep enough (despite being filled to the MAX level) and the batter wasnt able to seal around the fish. On a plus side though, this means my fish lasts longer as they are cut into smaller fillets :-) 5. This fryer has no facility to help clean the used oil. You simply have to wait until the oils cold, pour the used oil through some muslin to remove the food particles and store the used oil until the next use. 6. Yes most of the components can go into the dishwasher, however in reality this tends to just mean the lid and basket as baked on oil in the inner bowl needs to be removed by something with a bit more abbrasion. If you want a fryer that you will use every day, buy one with an inbuilt cleaning system. If you want a fryer for occasional use that will present well cooked and tasty meals, buy this one.

I received my deep fryer for a housewarming gift, I can't begin to say I much I love it. If someone is looking for this I would highly recommend it I get compliments on my food that is cooked in there all the time especially my fish fillets...
