Right from the start, this machine would not suck up the dirty water from the carpet, unless the front edge of the suction head was pushed down by hand. The machine then sucked up the water from the carpet. It seems this is a design fault, and having to do this is totally unacceptable.

As advertised the cleaner sends strong jets of water into the carpet and there is a strong suction but the nozzle is too far off the carpet to suck the water up and there is no adjustment on it so I had to get out my wet and dry vacuum to clear things up.
The static brush bar is just that, no way it oscillates for the carpet is left with a load of clean and not so clean stripes which indicates to me that the brush bar is not working the shampoo into the carpet.

My sons bedroom carpet was in a bit of a state, and having only ever hired big hulking carpet washers, I did have my fingers crossed the first time I used it- it was brilliant!
There were a couple of small areas that needed doing twice, but I couldn't believe how well the carpet came up.
A few reviews have said that this machine is noisy, but I've heard louder! I'm glad that those comments didn't put me off purchasing!
If and when the time comes that I need to replace this carpet washer, I will definately be buying another Vax.Vax V-028 Rapide Power Jet Pro Carpet Washer

I've had this a few months now without any problems. The super saver delivery took over 6 weeks to arrive and there was no way of tracking it so may be worth paying the extra for tracked delivery.
The unit is easy to assemble, it feels a little flimsy, the foot catch to lower the handle is particularly so but in fairness it hasn't broken.
Using the machine is very easy and it does a good job, it's easy to put in the detergent and the dirty water is easy to empty and the filters are easy to clean. The dirty water tank has a float which turns off the suction when it is full, this isn't immediately apparent but there is a slight change in sound and it doesn't suck up anymore!
The attachment hose for spot cleaning is a little fiddly to fit but works well.
Works well and puts the bounce back into the carpet.

After reading all the reviews on this website and others I took the plunge and bought the V-028. We live in a rented house with new beige synthetic carpets and two toddlers. It has only been hoovered for the last 18 months so was pretty grotty. After a once over with the upright unit I then attacked the marked (mud and water-based paint) parts of the carpet and the stairs with the upholstery attachment with great success.
At one point I did have trouble with the suction of the upright unit but once I emptied the dirty tank (it wasn't full) and re-attached it it was back to normal. Excellent machine, upholstery attachment essential for edges, stairs and stubborn bits.
