Good, but you'll need more than one to use them as the only lights. April 27, 2008 M. Horwood (London, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've always liked the impact of coloured lighting in a room. Having read some of the other reviews, I knew it was not going to be that bright, so I purchased two of these for my living room that has near white walls. I found the colours great, but with only two of these in the corners of the room, you would need another light on to have a useable level of brightness for reading etc. I know Philips probably didn't expect people to use them as the only room light, but I though this might be a lazy way to put in remote control lighting. So in order to test my theory you needed more, (and much to my wife's dismay), I brought two more. I have them in a 12ft by 18ft room, and the light levels just right. (Although these are no match for a normal light). One thing I noticed is the remote control does sometimes fail to activate all the lights, but this seems a range thing. (I guess it could be interference with wifi which has been mentioned, but its not happened enough to be an issue. In terms of setting up all lights to the same remote? easy, worked straight away. (Although I now have three extra remotes sat around doing nothing, as you can't re-tune the remotes to the save as each other) Over all very pleased with them, the ability to lighten the colours is great, as you can use them normally, and make the colours more intense when your entertaining. Now if only I can work out how to link them to my computer and control them via music........ p.s. like many others, I couldn't give them a five start rating, because of the high price point.
Mood lighting at its best and most affordable March 29, 2008 Picture Perfect I absolutely love this light, and am now ordering a second. It's wonderful at matching or lifting your mood, changing to any one of millions of colours. I'm a photographer and really appreciate the relaxing ambience this lamp creates. Well done Philips!
Unimpressed - took mine back March 7, 2008 mandarin 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
As an owner of a Philips Ambilight TV, I thought I'd extend the mood lighting to another part of the room. I found the colour intensity very poor. As soon as you take the unit far away enough from the wall to not have an intense spotlight, the colour intensity dramatically reduces. That's why they display this in a small boxed compartment because that's the limitation. Something about the lighting on all colours seems cheap and cold. It has almost a tubelight feel to it. The unstable body is a terrible idea. The material it's made from scratches as soon as it makes contact with the parquet. The stand is just a loose 'ring' that you are supposed to place the spherical body on, but of course that severely limits the angle because it's top heavy and just rolls over (and off the surface you place it on if you're not careful!) The remote control is excellent, it works from quite far. However, if you have WiFi at home, it does interfere. Clever People.NL You need a small room, and the room needs to be white, and you need to have low expectations. Far to expensive for the 5? LED's in this over sized lump of plastic.
Superb moodlighting!!! February 15, 2008 Sachin Thakur (UK) I bought Philips LivingColors as a Valentine gift for my girlfriend just yesterday for her bedroom which is not very big. She is absolutely thrilled by it. This is an amazing product, & it really changes the ambience of the entire room!! You can play around with the remote (which is radio controlled, so you don't have to point it towards the lamp!) to get the precise colour you want, with its 16 million options. The product itself is a beauty and can adorn any setting. Philips has a winner here. Every now & then, my girlfriend changes the colour to reflect her mood, & I have to guess if she's angry, or sad, or naughty, or happy. The lamp doesn't get hot at all, even if you leave it on for hours. I have not found any negatives yet. It's a bit expensive, but worth it.
What you see is what you get. January 8, 2008 R. Paijmans 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Philips has a way of throwing out slightly whacky products like this, but sometimes it does it well --as in this case. The lamp is exactly as it appears in the promotional literature, and nicely finished in construction. The iPod-esque radio remote is a nice piece of product design also and takes three AAA batteries, thoughtfully enclosed. In order to be able to use multiple lamps in the same area, each can be assigned its own remote (for individual operation), or you can assign one remote to all of them to operate them simultaneously. This means that when you plug in the lamp for the first time, you need to hold the remote about 10 inches away from the light-emitting front and touch the ON button for about 5 seconds. The light then flashes to let you know that it is tuned to the remote. From then on, operation is intuitively simple. The radio remote does work in the same band as Wifi networks, so if you find the range a bit limited or the response "jerky" (as has been mentioned), you may have to switch Wifi to channels 8 or 11 to avoid interference. In my case, I experienced no problems. I'll definitely consider buying a few more for different parts of the house.
