Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Lots of pros   November 29, 2008
Mr. A. R. Gibson (Oxford, UK)
We've had this kettle about 3 weeks now, and the difference from a standard kettle is remarkable. We use much less water, boil it for far less time and as a result save a fair bit of power (I haven't actually checked, but it seems self explanatory!).

I've read the other reviews on Amazon, and can add my own opinions on two matters: the lid, and chlorine:

The lid is a little bit dodgy - it is now harder to open than previously (to begin with it worked like a dream: spring-loaded so it opens wide to make filling from tap, mug, jug or whatever very easy). I suspect this was caused by closing it with too much force, although you would hope a kettle could withstand this lack of care. On balance I think it would still be okay if we had known to begin with that we had to treat it with more care than normal.

I haven't noticed any chlorine taste or smell, so I suspect this is a peculiarity of the location of the reviewers? We live in Oxford and I can honestly say that it hasn't been a problem.

I hope this review helps - I think this is a good buy.

3 out of 5 stars It's the TASTE that counts!   October 12, 2008

I'd love to give this kettle 5 stars. It's quick. It's quiet. It's great to watch the crescendo of bubbles rising as it boils! It's great too to see exactly where the water level is at,and you can boil the absolute minimum if you wish. The lid is no problem so far (3 weeks)and not a scratch in sight! And I got it for only 29 post free from John Lewis.

BUT - if only, if only, if only I could fill it direct from the tap without that chlorine taste in my tea from water which when unboiled or boiled in the kettles they used to make tastes free of chemicals! And it's not a plastic taste nor a steel taste. If I filter the water it's alright. If I get water from the burn its fine. Yet my 3 year old Bush doesn't and never ever did taste the same tap water. Neither does my 9 year old Kenwood, and never did.

I've recently returned 4 kettles because of this. I've come to the conclusion that ALL kettles now do this. Kettle manufacturers now appear no longer to know the secret of their own older kettles or perhaps they simply don't care. I've seen kettles with stars taken off for all sorts of things but not for failing to do the thing that matters most - deliver a decent cuppa!! I've seen kettles getting twenty 5 star or near 5 star reviews before one person happens to mention it tastes the water!! I don't think Which even bothers to rate kettles on this yet apart from safety issues this surely is what matters most! Either people just don't notice details like taste any longer or everyone filters water nowadays. It should not be necessary any more than it was a few years ago, and I just wish that some kettle manufacturer somewhere would take up the challenge! I would be delighted to know if anyone knows of a kettle which quite definately does not have even a trace of this problem.

1 out of 5 stars Clear body very easily scuffed.   October 7, 2008

I bought one of these elsewhere by mail order. When I opened the box, the clear body of the kettle was badly visibly scuffed in four "stripes". I then noticed a white bag in the bottom of the box which the kettle should have been inside to protect it. However, a kettle which can be so badly marked by the inside of a cardboard box in transit, is going to mark very quickly when in daily use. I sent this back and am now looking for another kettle. A real shame as it's great to have an energy saving kettle.

1 out of 5 stars Poor lid made me return a great kettle :-(   September 27, 2008

We were very pleased with this kettle. Hits all the right buttons, all the packaging is recyclable. You can boil just one cup and it clearly measures in centiliters too. However, the lid opening is a major design flaw, after only a few weeks it was very difficult to open. The poor quality lid opening function lets down great kettle.

5 out of 5 stars Quick and funky   September 20, 2008

I had a very sad rubbish overpriced Philips kettle that leaked after a very little while and I intended to go for a Bosch as i've had good experiences with their stuff. But after a touchy - feeley session in John Lewis, went with this one.

It is just very practical, super-clear view of how much water you need, leading to unbelievably quick cuppas. The little chap clicks off very soon after boiling and I think that I'll probably be saving a fortune on the leccy bill (relatively!). Probably the hardest thing is getting used to putting so little water in. Overall, its great!
