5 out of 5 stars Great for barbecues!   May 27, 2008
Smallvillenews (U.K.)
I ordered one of these in a bid to cut down the amount of fat in our food, for quickness and for the amount it will cook in one go.

This grill is huge. You need a good space to use it in, so before you order one, make sure you have plenty of work surface to use it on. It will easily hold and cook up to 9 chicken breats at a time if not more and I have used it for barbecues and cooked 10 quarter pounders at once and loads of sausages. If you don't like the traditional barbecue over a flame this is a great alternative, as it is quick and you don't have to mess around with charcoal and flames. As it is on a fine tilt, any fat drips down onto the drip tray (2 are provided) and it removes loads. I was amazed at just how much fat can still drip out of a lean piece of chicken breast! Everything tastes great when it isn't dripping with grease too!

I like to use the grill for it's quickness too. When switched on it takes a couple of minutes for the grill plates to heat up, indicated by a little red light, which switches off when it is ready. Then you add your food too the bottom plate and close the lid down again, on average it takes about 5 - 10 minutes to cook a chicken breast, be that 1 or 9 at once! Although it cooks without turning, I usually do turn half way through cooking for an even finish (I do this because the bottom plate has ridges). So within minutes your meat is cooked and ready for serving however you choose!

The lid is loosely fitted to accomodate thicker slices of meat, so it will easily raise or lower to the meat, depending on how thick your meat is or if you are grilling oddly shaped vegetables, which you can also grill on this.

I was sorry to read the 1 star review, as I have bought 2 of these myself, one for my family and one as a gift and we have never had a problem with either of them. So it is possible that was a one off and just a problem with that one, which can happen with anything, unfortunately for that buyer it was their grill.

My mother also has a smaller George Forman grill and has never experienced any problems with that either.

I was eagerly anticipating the arrival of this grill so the day it arrived I went to the shops and bought a selection of items to grill. I cleared space on the kitchen counter for it (it's bigger than you could imagine - like something you'd expect to find in a caterer's kitchen), read the instructions and wiped down the surfaces as per the instructions. Plugged it in and started preparing food while I waited for it to heat up. It took ages and started making a bit of a funny smell and smoke. I figured the smell is normal for new appliances and maybe the smoke was from my cloth being too damp when I wiped it down. Then the light plastic popped out. I pushed it back in and the light went off. I opened up the grill, put a chicken breast in and half the top of the grill fell down. It had melted itself and come apart, the top and handle being separated from the heavy top half of the grill and exposing wires. If it had happened a few seconds earlier or later my hand could have been caught resulting in a trip to the a & e and permanent scarring. My guess is that the thermostat wasn't working correctly and so it heated itself up far beyond what it should have. There should be safety triggers built in for this situation! This appliance poses a huge safety risk and I would not recommend buying it. If you do purchase it be sure to monitor it at all times (I was monitoring mine but did not notice some of the plastic melting away as it was on the side near the wall and not in clear view)

5 out of 5 stars Its Massive!!   August 31, 2007

I'd been looking around for a George Foreman grill for a while now. I've been to multiple shops to look at all the different ranges and just couldn't find one I liked. I then saw this one on Amazon and it had the look and design and the space I needed for what I wanted to cook.

On arrival I was overwhelmed by the size of the box and then even more so on removing the unit from its packaging. It was maaaahoooosive!!! It was actually alot bigger than I expected and probably a little too big in all honesty.. Anyway I wasn't going to return it as I'd waited too long for this moment so out came 4 Birds Eye Burgers and off I went. The amount of fat that came out of the burgers and collected in the drip tray was amazing. A must have for fans of burgers, sausages and bacon etc. Very easy to clean afterwards with the cleaning utensil provided and a wipe over with a sponge.

I'd just say watch the size as it is maaaahoooosive.
