Fantastic! August 4, 2008 Pips123 (Yorkshire, UK) I have just received this new vacuum today, and I am so pleased with it! It picks up cat fur with no problem, and is not too heavy. The rotating brush is especially useful on the stairs, although I have already had to clean it once as it got stuck with hair caught round it. (This is really easy to do though, and you can slip the back half of the brush head off, clean it, then easily put it back together.) The cord is really long, and it is much quieter than my old vacuum (a little electrolux - 'The Boss' model). The handle comes out to use as a rigid pole for the extension bits. I have been really pleased with this vacuum so far (although I have only had it one day!).
Would not buy another - disappointed. February 23, 2008 Mr. David Hanley (Swindon England) 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
Had my Vax Zero for around six months now and although it has been excellent at picking up the dust, dirt, and dog hairs from around my home, I would not buy another. On the first day that I used it and on the first switch-on I had a problem. I found that it had very little suction. Attaching the turbo tool to the hose failed to generate enough suction to spin the brushes. Most people would have packed the vacuum back in the box at this point and returned it. However, I decided to investigate, and after removing a few screws I found that a plastic membrane in the suction tube had failed to perforate enough on the intial switch-on to allow sufficient airflow through the pipe. It was a bit fiddly, but I eventually managed to cut away the plastic membrane and gain full suction. I then found that the mains cable was about 2 metres shorter than the dyson that it replaced and therefore meant that I could not hoover my lounge from the one socket. As has been previously stated in another review, the effort required to heave this cleaner up the stairs would leave many people wheezing on their landing. Then after around three months of use I found that the small holes in the dust canister were becoming blocked, even though I had been regularly cleaning the canister and internal dust collector. I am still looking for a long handled brush that will fit up inside to clean out these little holes. It would be a great help if the internal section was able to be removed from the cannister, but it can't. Then only two weeks ago (Feb 7th 2008) while emptying the contents into my dustbin, the plastic flap on the bottom of the dust cannister broke off. The plastic hinge is just not sturdy enough to take anything that amounts to slightly rough treatment. Luckily, the bottom flap can still be attached without the hinge and has not rendered the cleaner unusable. But it is not all bad. The suction on this cleaner is excellent, and the automatic brush shut-off in the case of a jam is really useful for extracting shoe-laces and string etc before they become too far tangled around the brushbar. Overall though, I regret buying this cleaner and would choose another model when I need to replace it.
A dream to clean with!! February 22, 2008 Jill, UK 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I loved my Vax-006 so when it broke after some heavy usage and serious plaster dust abuse, I wanted to stick with the Vax brand. When I came across this model it seemed to have all the features of the 006 and more, so decided to buy a graded one, which I'm more than pleased with. It really is a monster of a vacuum cleaner. Yes it is a bit heavy, which for some people would be off putting but to be honest you only really notice when you're taking it upstairs and even then I see it as good exercise!! It manoeuvres smoothly around like a dream so the weight isn't an issue when you're hoovering. I'd say the Vax is on a par with the Dyson in terms of power and suction, and no suction is lost when you use the hose. The turbo vac (mini vacuum which fits to the hose) is a beast itself and is perfect for doing the stairs. Also the hose is extra long so you can easily do the stairs all in one go! I did find with my old Vax 006 the hose sometimes came unstuck from its holder if I nudged the side of the vacuum, which got a bit annoying, but this has all the tools and hose tucked nicely at the back. The mains cable is plenty long enough to do all my downstairs and stairs. Oh and it's not as loud as previous vacuums I've had. I haven't emptied it yet but as an asthmatic this looks like it will be very easy - just flick a switch to release the dirt into your bin and that't it! I never ever thought I would get excited about vacuuming, but when using this model you really do feel like you're in the Jetson's cartoon or something, with it's metallic blue finish and blue light guiding you along the way. Buy it, you won't regret it and it will transform your vaccing experience!!
Good vacuum cleaner, if a little quirky January 25, 2008 Richard Kelly (Manchester, England) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I ordered one of these a few weeks ago to replace and old Hoover bagless cleaner that had starting making strange noises... After getting it out of the box it was immediately apparent that this is a well put together piece of kit. Five minutes after getting it out of the box it was ready to give a trial spin around my house. It does pick up lots of fluff from carpets and you need to be a bit careful around tastles on rugs - fortunatly you can choose to stop the brush from spinning by pressing a large round button, so when you get near the edge you can stop the brushes, get to the edge, turn around and start the brushes again. As the review states it is a bit quirky. The hight adjustment is very stiff, so quite a bit of force needs to be applied. The brushed also go on and off whilst vacuuming, which is a bit off putting at first - they go off whilst pulling backwards. The brushes also switch themselves off if the vacuum is set in the upright position, which is good if you are using the tools, but not so good if you have only just got it out of the box and think it is broken! The hose is integrated into the handle and the tools fit nicely in a couple of spaces on the back of the cleaner. The turbo tool is good for cleaning stairs with. The cleaner is no heavier than my previous hoover, and it is actually slightly quieter (but it is quite noisy). It empties easily and the filter can be removed with ease, so that they can be cleaned. I like it so far. 8/10
It's a great sucking machine. January 15, 2008 Ms. N. J. Cross (dorset) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I may have to update this review as i have only used the vacuum once or twice but wanted to report what i have noticed so far as i always rely on reviews given by others so thought it was time to do my own. The first thing that i want to say is that i have two cats one of whom is quite long haired and i too have long hair and this hoover is fantastic at picking up all the hair including mine although you will find that human hair does tend to get caught up in the turbo tool but it is easy enough to remove. I think other people have said that the hoover is quite loud. The thing with hoovers is that they are all loud. I dont think i have come across a quiet hoover and in the scheme of things i dont think this one is overly loud and in fact is quieter than the ones i have had in the past even though the cats still think it is a scary monster and scarper as soon as they see it. This brings me on to the next thing, although i recommend this hoover for the performance (It's so good it sucks up stuff you didnt even know was there) it is very heavy and although i dont find it too much of a problem getting it up the stairs i wouldn't think it very suitable for the elderly. It is also quite bulky but having said this it isnt a heavy hoover to push around when vacuuming. Just a couple of other points i noticed was that the brushroll will need to be reset if you get a shoelace caught in it like i did and there is a little button to do this which does the trick. Also i found the carpet height adjuster hard to move and in fact i couldn't when it was in the upright position (as suggested) but it moved quite easily if i lent the hoover back so the head is at a 45degree angle (at least i think it is a 45 degree angle). The good thing about the height adjuster though is it means you can hoover on hard floors all the way up to luxury long pile carpets. All in all i think this hoover is great and well worth the money.
