The worst kettle ever. August 8, 2008 Mr. S. Gilchrist (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the worst kettle (as far as im aware) you could buy. I grant you it looks nice, and I brought this along with the matching toaster (another product not to touch, and will review in a minute) and blender (ok so far, but it get's little use). I brought the kettle several months before I moved house, and it remained in its packaging until then, within a couple of months of use I started to notice a small amount of water on the base when I lifted the kettle. Initially I put this down to having been spilled by myself or partner either lifting or replacing the kettle. The couple of drops of water have now turned, into a massive puddle which needs to mopped up with a tea towel. The kettle has been in use for about a year now, we keep it on a tea towel to absorb the water, and only fill it when we need to use it, and any remaining water gets emptied out. Leaving it full overnight would certainly not be a good idea! Between the kettle and toaster Philips have ensured that i never buy another product from them, I just hope that I never have the misfortune of being hooked up to any of their medical equipment. I would have left this review sooner but these things always take longer to get around to than you expect.
Another made in China product to avoid April 26, 2008 John Hopkinson (Derbyshire) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
less than 1 year old and its had it, usual Chinese build quality ie its tat:lid wont lock, part of lid has snapped off and fills the room with steam, when are manufacturers going to realise that for some people quality comes before cost,
Capable Kettle October 31, 2006 BarrowBoy (London, UK) 33 out of 34 found this review helpful
I got this kettle as part of a set with the matching Philips toaster. It has the same stylish aluminum body that the other items in the range have, with an attractive blue-purple light that illuminates the kettle when it switches on. It seems well built, with the handle situated well away from the main body of the kettle to help avoid having to touch any hot surfaces. There's also a handy button-activated lid which is wide enough to help avoid any splashes or spillages. After scalding myself numerous times on the stubborn lid of my last kettle, this is more than a welcome relief. The inside of the kettle is easy to clean with the concealed element, and the scale filer seems straightforward to maintain, even though our water isn't that hard anyway. It's a fairly quiet kettle, which is probably why they included a bell in the base to ring once the boil cycle has finished. Sadly, it also seems to ring whenever you pick it up and move it around, giving me flashbacks to various jangly children toys I've owned in the past. Not really the sort of sound you want to hear coming from a top-of-the-line kettle like this, but it's a minor gripe. It looks good, and it does the job whilst removing a lot of the small annoyances that I've had with other kettles. Hopefully it'll last long enough to more than justify its price tag.
