big disappointment September 8, 2008 Peggy Brown (London) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Having read such positive reviews, I decided to buy the spinner, but unfortunately my experience wasn't positive at all. The spinner broke after 3 months of using - the whole pushy system suddenly fell apart to my and my boyfriend's huge astonishment, as we didn't do anything to it that could cause a damage! The previous spinner, which was a completely different model, last for over 6 years... I sent an email to the company asking for a refund but the manufacturer could only offer me a replacement. I accepted that offer (well, it's quite a lot of money at the end of the day) but unfortunately, after a month of several emails and phone calls, I still haven't received it and no-one is getting back to me. In the meantime, my boyfriend bought a new spinner which was cheaper and its system is far better (it has a rotating handle and a brake button, and dries everything immediately). The oxo took ages to dry salad, requires two hands to operate (yes - the non-slip base is a myth as it still dances around on the table), and because it has the plunger-knob in the middle, one had to be careful placing salad around it... Think twice before you buy it, that's my advice.
Oxo Salad Spinner June 19, 2008 Dawny B (England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I saw Jamie Oliver use this type of salad spinner on TV - it made the job sooooo much easier than using conventional spinners. After a quick search on the Net, found what I wanted and it's worth it's weight in gold! I have back problems and found it very easy to use. It doesn't skid along the worksurfaces, the brake is great and love the fact that it is dishwasher proof (All hail the dishwasher!!) I no longer end up hugging the salad spinner I had like a long lost friend trying to turn the handle and hold it on the worksurface. Great idea and so simple.
Years of service May 16, 2008 Bluebell (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've had one of these for several years and it's still going strong. I find it excellent for drying off salad leaves, spinach and herbs. It's easy to wash and you can store your washed leaves in it in the fridge until needed. I also have used it to remove rinsing water from soft fruit such as raspberries and strawberries which can get squashed with dabbing dry with a paper towel.
excellent February 18, 2008 Hambletta-Maud (sunny ireland) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
be honest. can you live your life without a salad spinner? you probably can. but should you? no. so if you're going to get one then this is the one for you. the central button you just push down and it spins your bits inside like there's no tomorrow. no longer do you have to contend with a rotating handle like on old-fashioned salad spinners that tend to fly off your counter and pierce you in the eye. the oxo rocks.
SUPER Salad Spinner with non-slip base October 15, 2007 AMAZON REVIEWER 37 out of 38 found this review helpful
Salad spinners pretty much work on the same principle - an external container with an internal basket which spins, expelling the excess water you can then tip away. However, some are better than others! I have upgraded my handle turning, two hands required, bright pink spinner to this one, which arrived, yesterday! What a difference .... Simply place the cut vegetables, salad leaves and herbs into the basket, leaving some central space for the lid-based `plunger' knob, pop on the lid and push! No effort required - one hand operation and this particular model is further enhanced by the non-slip base.........so it doesn't shuffle along the work-surface! Efficient built-in brake stops the salad spinner for unloading. Dishwasher safe - on the top rack, but I find this item easy to clean, by hand. Basket and bowl can be used separately. Easy to store. Boxed with full instructions. Available in two sizes:- `Small', approx overall dimensions H 18 cm x Dia 25 cm which should be adequate for two, in my opinion, and `Large', if preparing for more.
