"For want of a nail the shoe was lost" May 19, 2008 S. Wenman Having been initially pleased with this smoothie maker, I have now encountered the same problem as a previous reviewer - the tap retaining ring has broken in half. I always feared that this part was the weakest link as it is a small plastic ring which could easily get lost or broken and after 3 months I have been proven right. RH Customer Services said that they had received no other complaints about this part - clearly not true - and told me I could buy a replacement tap. As the product is still under warranty I shall return it instead. Although this is a good looking appliance and when it works makes good smoothies, I feel unable to recommend it because of the frailty of this ring.
do not buy this item!! February 11, 2008 G. Thomas (Shrops, UK) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
The one star awarded is because it worked well for 3 weeks. After this, a vital part broke in half (tap retaining ring). I contacted R-H Customer (appalling)Service Dept to get a replacement part under warranty. This company's mantra is 'the customer is always wrong'. I was told that this part did not exist, although it was clearly shown on the user manual. I then sent the broken piece as evidence, and in a week, received a part back that does not even belong to that machine at all. I have since fashioned a locking ring from a brass threaded plumbing part, by machining it to fit.I seriously recommend that clients do not purchase this item unless they are competent DIY engineers. As for the'Customer Service Dept' - forget it - they are nothing less than a disgrace.
Poor usability and it leaks!!! July 21, 2007 Mr. I. Jamieson (Scotland) 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
Bought this as i though with all the trouble people were having with the kenwoods, it would be a good choice. How wrong was i!!! First use, it was fine. But after cleaning i found it hard to put all the pieces back together. They DO NOT click in place. The rubber ring u place at the bottom, is too big and keeps slipping out when you put the jug in. Then, it leaks like mad - liquid flowing all over my kitchen and floor. Poor product design - and yes i've followed the instuctions very clearly. I'm sending mine back!!!
fantasic bit of kit June 26, 2007 T. Andrews (leeds) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
after much deliberation i chose this particular smoothie maker because of: decent motor size (other items reveiwed gave poor results due to small motor) glass jug - wont harbour smells & more substantial Ice crushing blades - essential tap - very usefull black & silver (even the white one is 50 in argos) I certainly am not disappointed with this machine , its brilliant, ive made smoothies everyday & cocktails for friends at the weekends ive found it whips thru ice cubes &* frozen fruit without any problem Its easy to clean, but this must be done immediately, dont leave the fruit to dry on as it will be a nightmare - just a quick run thru with a COLD tap (so the fruit doesnt "cook" onto the jug) & then a rince in hot water is all it takes to get it clean. Perfect smoothies in less than 5 minutes including cleaning
Russell Hobbs 12621 Smoothie Maker June 20, 2007 R. Dent (Lancashire, UK) 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
I have recently bought this item from Amazon.co.uk. It was easy to set up, although at first there seemed to be a connection problem and it didn't work. However once that problem was overcome the smoothie maker itself was quite good.It also comes with a little booklet including recipies for fruit smoothies and also alcoholic cocktails. There are a few reasons i wouldn't recommend this product however. It is quite large, and perhaps it would suit a more commercial environment than at home.Secondly it is very heavy, and this wouldn't normally be an issue but when it comes to cleaning the product you have to take half of the machine off so it becomes very heavy as it is also thick glass. The glass jug is also perhaps too big for regular size portions too.
