1 out of 5 stars Rubs salt in the wound   November 5, 2008

They certainly look great, be proud to have them on your table unless, of course, you want to get some salt and pepper out of them.
Fairly tricky to take apart and then you have to find 8 AA batteries to power them.
But they do look good and the little light is cute at the bottom. It helps you to see if any salt has come out yet (chances are against it).
A rotating control adjusts the grinding mechanism so you can choose between a fine ground inadequate stream or no stream at all.
In the end I reclaimed the batteries and bought a manual set off the shelf at Tescos.
They do look good, even with no batteries.

3 out of 5 stars Doesn't like whole peppercorns   August 15, 2008

Salter Stainless Steel Twin Electronic Mills (7522)
Bought these because the wife has RA and we do prefer fresh ground salt and pepper. The salt mill has no problem with grinding but the pepper mill is a lillte slow but gets there in the end. A consequence of the slow grind of the peppercorns is that the light on the mill is quite dim. Otherwise they are usefull and do look nice in the kitchen.

I am afraid that we have had a Salter battery operated pepper mill for some years (a present). Our experience is the same as one of the previous reviewers. The mill turns a few times and stops, you shake, and then press the button again.... The batteries are just not powerful enough for the job.

We are currently considering buying a manual grinder.

2 out of 5 stars Salt of the Earth? Not in the Groove oops Grind!   September 18, 2007

I have the dreadful condition along with many others called carpel tunnel so thought I would treat myself to two of these grinders based on the review I read here.
However although Salter is a very well known name in the kitchen I am disappointed how these grinders work.
1) Open the packaging
2) Read instructions ( you cannot use rock salt with these grinders - why I do not know )
3) Get 4 AA batteries per grinder and take top off (off the grinder dear reader not my own top!)
4) Put batteries in the top of the grinder without loosing one in the kitchen very easy to do if they don't clip in properly.
5) Put top back on
6) Select grind you want either fine medium or corse
7) Press button and watch the pretty light come on and watch the grinder grind and stop! Shake grinder and it continues and stops shake grinder again and it starts then stops!

Yes this only grinds for a few turns and then stops you have to keep shaking the thing and it if wasn't so expensive it would have been thrown against the kitchen wall and I would have spilled pepper corns over the floor and stamped on them would have had a more fun time and landed up with lots of ground pepper and salt rather than the start stop dance I have to do with them.
Next time I will choose to buy a more expensive one perhaps if I do it will actually work longer than a few turns without having to shake it!

5 out of 5 stars Great if you've only got one working hand   July 21, 2007

I bought these for someone who has only one hand working and they were an instant hit. Well made, they grind well, easy to use (with one hand), and the little light that comes on to illuminate your food is quite pointless but highly amusing :-)
