Shortlived Water Chiller October 6, 2008 Name Withheld (Hereford, Herefordshire) I too was on my second water chiller, having had the original one replaced under guarantee just before the year was up. The refrigeration unit on the replacement has now broken and the chiller is just outside it's guarantee period. The water quality is great and the concept good but I would not trust a third to give good service. It was an expensive item and so I would expect it to last longer than these two filters have.
water chiller September 8, 2008 Scott Bradley (MANCHESTER UK) Well we got one in march had to send it back to amazon and ask for an xchange for like for like but they made a refund in to my account as it cost more to re-purchase back off amazon. Which you may notice they have stopped selling the white one,it was ok when it worked but would i get another the answer would be NO.....
Breville Brita Aqua Fountain Water Filter Chiller - White August 20, 2008 M. Lewis (London) I don't know what all the fuss is all about these Breville Aqua Fountains using Brita maxtra water filters. I have bought this item on Friday 16 August 2008, and am totally happy with it. After washing and drying all the chambers, getting rid of any air bubbles and decanting the water twice before using it, I found it a joy to use. Some people may find the subtle low noise (like a kettle starting to boil) and constant checking to see that both chambers are topped up irritating but once you enjoy the cool drinks it dispenses especially once it has reached the desired chilled setting (when the central blue light lights up) it is quickly forgotten. I had no problems filling tall tumblers and if you need to fill a bottle just use a clean jug and decant into a bottle, otherwise you will get water leaking all over your worktop. The only problem you should have with this product is that it is quite a tall structure but should fit under most overhead cupboards, positioning it about 5cm (2") away from a wall, the time it takes to clean and dry the washable parts, clearing any air blockages and preparing the brita maxtra filter for first use. The fountain needs to fill up twice before you are able to have a drink and must be changed each month. The gauge on the lid will let you know when the filter needs changing. Each week one of the bars disappears and when they have all disappeared the fountain will need to be cleaned and replaced with a new maxtra filter. It is a gorgeous item to look at during the day and you will always get complimented on its appearance especially at night, it lights up the kitchen with a glorious sapphire blue neon light! When it is not in use, wash and thoroughly dry the top two chambers. At the bottom of the fountain is a plug to ensure that all water stored in the fountain can be drained out completely but before doing so make sure the fountain is switched off, unplugged from the wall and only the bottom of the fountain is held over a sink, then release the plug so that it can be drained thoroughly ready for storage. I hope you don't get put off buying this item the prices have recently been reduced and if you enjoy drinking diluted drinks or just plain water as I do, it will make it even more enjoyable has it makes you drink more than usual being so prominent in the kitchen! Happy drinking.
It is a shame Brita but their name to this August 20, 2008 Bob Although it is marketed as Brita it actually is manufactured by Breville. The filter is excellent providing clean fresh tasting water, however I agree with the other reviewers over the quality of the dispenser. From day one it was quite noisy and prone to airlocks which meant that it either had to be shaken or pressed on one side to make it dispense water. I did check with a spirit level to ensure that an inclined worktop was not the problem. The cooling was not impressive and although I did not measure the temperature it was only slightly below the ambient temperature. Eventually after about 18 months it got very noisy, stopped cooling and I threw it away. I have now purchased a Russell Hobs version which is very quiet and dispenses water rapidly and seems much cooler and is cheaper, the only disadvantage is the filing is more complicated. No idea about the reliability however. It is a pity as I prefered the taste of the Brita filtered water.
I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing this item August 9, 2008 P. Callaghan (Lincolnshire UK) Brita Aqua Fountain Water Filter Chiller - White I agree with all the negative comments I have read today, I bought one of these chiller/filters recently & I am seriously considering sending it back. It is noisy, hard to fill, and keeps dying on me. I have taken it down twice and refilled it again (wasting water!!!!) only to have it air lock on me again yesterday. I am so cross, I just wish I had read the reviews before purchase!!! I didn't want to give it ANY stars!!!!
