1 out of 5 stars Early failure and manufacturer unwilling to do anything about it   October 3, 2008
Deb (UK)
I purchased this slow cooker about two years ago, and it's been used perhaps 10 or 12 times, if that. Today when I tried to use it, I found that the "mode" control was not working - I can't change from the low mode to high. Looking on-line, I note that several other users have had similar issues with the control panel failing.

I telephoned Russell Hobbs, who want me to return the item to them - at my cost - and say that if they find there is a fault, they might offer me a replacement at a discounted cost.

This is not a cheap slow-cooker, and I do not think it reasonable that it should last for longer than two years and a few uses. I am very disappointed with both the quality (given that mine is clearly not the only one to have failed in this way) and with Russell Hobb's failure to stand behind their products. I will not be purchasing any other Russell Hobbs items.

4 out of 5 stars Two for tea   January 22, 2008

I bought this because of the split pot design- which is pretty unique. I was initally daunted by other reviews saying juices leaked from one side to the other .Especailly as Im a vegetarian and I was wanting to cook meat dishes for my family in one side and vegetarain dishes in the other. However I have now had this for a year and a half and have NO problem with the juices going from one section to the other. I admit I have never cooked desserts in it so cant say how well desert cooks but I have never experienced any meat juices transfering- thank goodness !
In most other ways this is a great device and the first slow cooker I have owened. It can cook either the standard high or low settings and has a timer to cook for up to fourteen hours and also a warm setting.
Food tastes fantastic and the meat eaters in my family marvel how well I can cook roast chicken and lamb - with it aparentily being very tender and falling of the bone. It is a highily versatile way of cooking and you soon get the hanging of just throwing in bits and bobs of tin tomateos, gravy and meat blobs and getting a tasty meal appearing in a few hours .I would like to take full credit for being a meat cooking connesieur but between you and me full credit goes to the slow cooker ! Cooking wise its full proof and unlike my normal cooking attempts evey dish has been great- the only think to watch out for is that you dont need as much liquids with a slow cooker- just a minor thing. Its good for putting in dinners in the morning to cook ( chucking in whatever is available ) and coming home to a lovely meal at night.
My only problem with this is that one it is VERY heavy and if you are elderly, disabled or have weak wrists its pretty heavy to lift the pot out for cleaning. So I would avoid giving it to someone who might have a problem with the solid pots weight. The other problem is the cleaning- apart from it weighing a ton its a bit tricky to get really clean- you cant really just leave it to soak- this is my minor niggle others may not find it a problem. Apart from that I love it because of the food it serves, its praticality and the fact I can cook two seperate meals at ease and its served me and my family well. Its became my secret kitchen weapon !

2 out of 5 stars Slow Cooker   June 29, 2007

I have had this cooker for sometime and it does work and makes tasty meals. I wouldn't buy anther one though as I chose this design specifically as it had a split bowl, I thought I could cook two different things. This is not so as there is some flavour transfer. Its good for cooking a large portion and a smaller portion ie one for ther freezer, and very generous if you want to prepare a large meal. If you just want a slow cooker I'd recommend going for something 'bog' standard'. It has been very reliable though and I've used it a lot.

1 out of 5 stars No It Doesn't Do What it Says on the Tin!!   March 16, 2007

Despite the Russell Hobbs' web site and the packaging claiming "Removable oven proof cooking pot" the instructions say that the cooking pot should not be used with any other appliance - such as an oven!!

Misleading?? Worse than misleading?? Is there a star rating which covers "not fit for purpose"?

I am pleased to note that at least the Amazon site does not make this claim.
