5 out of 5 stars Spring seduces, summer thrills, autumn sates, Foreman grills   March 20, 2008

Is there anyone in the country who has never owned a George Foreman grill? Can't be. Many of us have had so many we can't remember the first one, which is another way of saying that they are not a long-life item. You won't be handing it down to later generations unless it's as a doorstop, which this is heavy enough to be. If used regularly the non-stick coating soon either vanishes or becomes ineffective, I cannot tell which is the case. Cleaning then becomes a real chore, and if not done rigorously gunge accumulates so that when it conks out altogether - and it will eventually - you're glad of the excuse to buy a new one. And I always do replace a dead George, simply because they work so well.

There is no better way to enjoy a salmon steak than to let George cook it for 10 minutes. The top tip for cooking all fresh or frozen fish on a George is to let it sizzle until the skin lifts off easily, then whip it off quick or it will become too dry. Kippers are a tasty treat cooked by George, don't be impatient, wait until they are looking a little charred and you can lift the bones away. Edit: Let me stress I am talking about proper kippers, no those ghastly things in packets.

We have cooked so many things on various Georges that I could not list them here. All sorts of foods, just chuck them on and they'll be fine, even if the packet instructions say oven cook only. The weight of George's lid does mean that thick but fragile items - we're talking chunky fishcakes here - will be squashed to twice their original diameter. Also, do not attempt to fry eggs on it, that is a noble experiment but doomed to failure.

Back to this particular grill then, the maximum width of the cooking surface is 16.5 inches, the maximum depth 8 inches. This is enough for a complete meal for two, with meat or fish, potato wedges, tomatoes, some onion or WHY. That is major convenience, and it is why I recommend this product. I also recommend free standard carriage. Mine was ordered on a Saturday afternoon and delivered to my remote Scottish hideout on Wednesday morning, I'm happy with that.

4 out of 5 stars Great item, but watch out with highly salted foods!   March 16, 2008

I have had one of these now for three years.

At first I cooked EVERYTHING in it and it worked fabulously, until I went away for a week, leaving my husband home alone. I left a gammon joint to cook in the slow pot, however, he decided to chop it up and cook it in the George Forman. Because the item with a high salt content was left sizzling away for longer than you normally would, the coating died. Completely disintegrated. To add insult to injury, he then scrubbed the surfaces with an abrasive cleaner.

So be warned....a brilliant item, but to be treated with respect! It is best cleaned when still hot, using soapy water on a soft cloth.

My next `George' will have removable and soakable plates.....

With a family of seven to feed, we needed a grill with plenty of room on it - and this is it.
- The plates heat up evenly, meaning everything gets cooked properly at once.
- Very easy to use.
- Comes with a pretty comprehensive list of cooking times for a variety of foods.
- Best of all - it's very easy to clean.
I love my grill !!
Great product.
Highly recommend.

Absolutely fantastic, don't know why we didn't get one earlier. So easy and quick to use. Cleaning is no problem. Food cooks to perfection. Big and sturdy enough to cook for the whole family. Definitely recommend anyone to buy this product.

I was a bit apprehensive about buying this grill as I have never had one before but a friend strongly recommended the George Foreman grill so I went ahead and bought one when I received vouchers for Amazon at Christmas time. I was amazed at being able to buy this grill at such a low price.

I have to say I am delighted with it and wonder how I have ever managed without one.

Comes highly recommended!
