5 out of 5 stars An improved Mosquito!   May 30, 2008

....better than the generic Mosquito helos which have two 4-blade rotors with a ring round them - much like a pair of windmills.
This newer version has two conventional 2-blade rotors with a balance bar on the top rotor. It works better for us, and seems to be a bit tougher.
It is still a 3-axis machine with yaw (=rudder) control, motor power (=collective) and pitch (=forward/reverse) rather than the simple 2-axis of the basic Picoo that most of us have seen - in ads if not in the flesh.

We have had half-a-dozen of the older Mosquito variety in our family - mostly the 'Alany' model, and we love them, but this is a significant improvement with slightly better performance, and significantly improved control in the air.
The rotor diameter is increased which reduces disk loading - this probably accounts for the improved performance. The tail rotor that controls it in 'pitch' has slimmer blades than previous models and works much better than earlier ones. The trim controls are less effective, but this did not detract from the (relative) ease of flying this model.
All things are relative, and helicopters are usually worse than the in-laws on a dark night. Model helos are usually harder - but this is one model that most people should be able to master eventually. Just persevere. The stabiliser bar works well, and the improved pitch control means that forward/reverse speed change is much smoother.
Recommended for kids of all ages!
Younger ones may need adult supervsion - especially at first. Older kids are likely to put you to shame, like our great-nephew, who can seemingly fly anything. We'll be getting him one of his own one day. Hope you enjoy yours!

4 out of 5 stars Great fun   January 13, 2008

For the money, this toy is great... durable tooo.. I landed it in the kitchen sink not knowing it was full of water and after some disassembling and drying out, it fired up the next day with all it's uncontrolability _ or was that me?...
Hours of fun and educational in 3 dimensions... Best to practice with this beast before forking out 300 quid on the real thing/hour!
There's plenty of other cheapo heli's out there but I'm happy with this one... for the mo...
Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars cheap intro to helicopters   January 6, 2008

This mozzi has given me a lot of enjoyment. I have always wanted to have a go with an RC controlled flying object but never got round to it. Having played with this, at 51 years old, it realy has whetted my appetite. So I have now ordered a Esky honey b 2 helicopter. Quite a jump, but inspired by the fun I have had with this little moz. The moz has proven to be robust, I have had no mechanical breakages. the only thing that has gone wrong, after hours of fun was one of the drive motors stopped working. After taking the beasty apart I found that the brush gear had over heated, probably due to stalling blades when crashed. But with a bit of gigory pockery under a magnifying glass I managed to get her in the air again and have had several flights since. I am trying to source spare motors as I would like to keep it going for as long as possible.
Bottom line though, If you had, or have a slight interest in flying gadjets this will give a good load of fun for a pretty modest outlay.
